Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

It can be a vernacular thing. Here ‘I will F’ing kill you’ is commonly used in a jovial way with mates. Rarely would it make it to law here as a genuine threat (on its own anyway).

Can’t speak for your mate of course but I can see how some things are lost in translation.
AT you are a wordsmith and understand the meaning of words even in the " vernacular...." I'll f...ing kill you " said generically is very different to the specifically said " I will kill you if you leave me".

I'm sorry but there is very little room for doubt in my mind

Saying I’ll kill you does not necessarily refer to violence. It could be in reference to reputation or financial wellbeing. Unless individuals know what was truly meant and under what context I think I’d reserve judgement. But maybe that’s just me… it’s a moot point…..

Good morning all al this sunny day .I hope all are well and had a good night's rest .I am looking forward to Moyes selection again to see what his aims are as far as the players he sees a future in or not .
Have a great day all COYB
The crane I mentioned last year has taken up residence in the next field and lets us get quote close to it ,they are such a big bird ,not the one @lancs blue posted but the feathered kind .

Cultural differences jazzy and also dependent on the tone and circumstances of delivery. I can’t really comment fully on blue’s mate as I don’t have any substantive background but on the face of it yes it possibly could be seen as a threat. My tuppence into the chat was specifically around how the threat to kill is really not taken as read here as we say it all the time in vernacular. Perfect example, I agreed last night to guide someone to a good parking spot for today’s final. As we parted ways he told me ‘if you leave me standing in the morning I’ll F’ing kill you’. He of course means it as a joke and I took it as such because it’s how it’s understood here (largely).

For the boring legal bit, if there is no intent to cause fear then there won’t be an offence. Mere use of the word ‘kill’ won’t meet the threshold even if there is a condition attached to it i.e. ‘if you leave me’. If this wasn’t the case, every Irish Mother would have served time as they all threaten death on their children to ensure they are home in time for their tea 😉

Do you think we’ll see Alcaraz get another start? If he does, and he should, it’s a good indication he will be signed.

You raise a fair point here. Context is everything. I was taught as a teacher never to make a threat you won't carry out, but it didn't stop me threatening to pull a kids lungs out and spread salt in them, if they didn't produce their homework. Obviously i didnt mean it, and it was always taken in the context of jest, accompanied with my mad staring eyes and wild hair*. At least i think so. But some things, when stated in the cold light of day, out of context in a court room, can sound horrendous and can easily turned against you when the mood shifts, or if picked up on by a paid lawyer as an opportunity. The law is so literal.

*awaits some future allegation from a traumatised pupil, now in their 40s, wanting some compo.
I am most surely going to use that line down the pub.

Agreed.

Some rine back I served a Facebook ban because their Artificial Stupidity bot cannot see context or vernacular - when I said to a friend "I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you.", a very well known trope, the bot took it literally as a threat and "poof" I was out for a week or so.

(Same a few months later, for "hate speech" when I used the phrase "have a fag" as in cigarette!) Proper fewmin!

I hope we do if he is a contender otherwise what is the point , DD does worry me tho', for sure every manager has favourites that are not the best players but ones they can depend on thro' thick and thin ,my greivance is that they must also be our future and from what has been muted by him age is a prime factor in the decisions to be made .All I ask is that he shows that today and the remaining games ,he can't play some but the rest should be looking to the future and Alcaraz is the prime example as opposed to Keano for instance .

Great story this week in local media regarding how to fool the bots. They are programmed to scan for the word ‘ticket’ and then all the scummy scammers target people looking to get their hands on one. For the final I’m at today, the main fan site advised anyone looking sorted to use the Irish word ‘ticéad’ rather than the English word ticket. So simple but it worked a treat in fooling the bot software.

I’d say even Moyes’ favourite Doucs has let himself down with the public wage comments and now won’t be a part of our future.

Morning everyone,

End of season table tennis do last night so I'm feeling a wee bit delicate.

Fulham v Everton....meh can't summon up any interest in this one other than I hope that I will never see Doucoure , Young or Keane in an Everton shirt again.

I also hope that we don't offer new deals to Seamus and DCL , we need to move on from perma crocked players but hopefully Seamus can lead us out one last time v Southampton next week.

WIth the weather being so good it's cricket today for me and then a glass of vino in the garden.

Have a lovely day everyone.

I hope you recover in time for the cricket ,I must say I see your point over the "kill" comment ,my last word on it is that the lad was a really nice bloke who was truly devestated by the insertion in the divorce papers , that is the memory which has lingered .
I agree on those you have selected we need to stop being the club we were .I do think that TFG will make sure that sentiment is kept well within their control ,given that the Yanks love a lot of things we have in our culture I am sure they will retain Seamus. These players and manager are but a tiny part of our history and should be treated as such . My wish is that they are working on the big plan not including any of the above !
