Couple of daft ones for you folks to wake up to

I said to the Karen “let's go out to dinner tonight" she came back with the usual "I have nothing to wear" I said "just wear what you wore last time we went out together, you looked beautiful" So here we were in the local steak house, me in jeans and t-shirt and her in her wedding dress

I’m currently reading a book called “Fear of Sunlight” by Gladys Knight

Good morning all on this wet one here . I hope all are well and had a good night .What a shame for @Barnfred 55 three weeks in SA and now a cleaner of patios ,life can be so cruel. A word from @peteblue would be nice to let us all know he is on top of things . Have a great day all COYB
He was in my thoughts yesterday- they were playing Atomic by Blondie in the supermarket. Hope things are okay for him.

….Christmas night into Boxing Day we finally had to relent and get an ambulance for Betty, my 96yo MiL. She lives on her own and has been bright as a button but we’re increasingly having to go around and pick her off the floor. Our daughter is a hospital consultant and has always been reluctant to call 999 but she went downhill with flu and became confused and bed bound.

Anyway, hospital treated her for ‘end of life’ but spirited Betty is going nowhere and is still there 5 weeks later. There’s no way she can return home so it’ll likely come to a point where she has to go into care. The implications are that her house will be gobbled up in care costs and it’s got us thinking.

We’re looking at transferring our home to the kids now plus dripping our savings etc into them eg we’re both maxed out in Premium Bonds we can transfer if possible. Daughter had a word with her financial/Accountant people yesterday about options (apparently putting in a trust is not advised) so we’ll see what comes of that.

Type of things you have to think about before it gets too late.

It used to be an advantage to spread any such dealings over two or even three tax years .

We have been discussing inheritance since my Mum passed seven years ago, still haven’t got round to doing anything though. We thought about making our house tenants in common so that only half would go in care fees should they be needed. As you say it might be time to actually do something about it.
Best wishes to Betty she sounds like quite a girl.💙

My sister has Alzheimer’s , is in a nursing home in Manchester , I have Power Off attorney and yesterday I was reviewing her finances , working out how much longer her savings will be able to continue paying for it. My worry is when she runs out of money the Council may move her to a cheaper home if she’s not paying.
I’ve been lucky enough to be able to help my kids get on the property ladder with a view to helping them when they’re young , provided you live 7 years after any gift it becomes Inheritance Tax free . Councils can investigate if they think you gave away your house to avoid care fees so be wary. It’s a balance though. Nobody knows what our future holds and you need to ensure your own finances will cover all eventualities eg additional carers to enable you to continue living in your own home in later life . Getting old sure ain’t easy!

Hello everybody. We've had a lovely day in Dublin and the Croke Park stadium tour was fantastic. Really interesting. I learnt loads - the players are all amateurs, there's no transfers and, how important Croke Park is in Irish history (my Granny had told me about the 1920 Bloody Sunday)
The pics are of Croke Park, the Post Office in O 'Connell Street- complete with 1916 bullet holes. We also walked over 15000 steps so tonight's Guinness will be well-deserved!
