Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Meant to ask (as I’m nosey), what is it about a spinning wheel that gets your attention? Childhood memory of your Granny maybe?
Don’t think you are nosey, just interested. I’ve no idea where the fascination came from, my Nan didn’t have one. One thing from my grandparents home which always did fascinate me was my Grandad’s old Windsor chair, inherited from his grandmother. He always sat at the dining table on it, eating his meals with his WW1 army cutlery. I always coveted that chair but as one of twelve grandchildren never dreamt that I would be the one to get it but as things turned out it became mine. It’s probably worth next to nothing but to me it’s priceless.

Well the weekend of supreme disappointment has arrived. My daughter gets married on Saturday and I’ve already explained that I can’t attend due to looking after Kay. I also have a season ticket which I’ve only been able to use a couple of times for similar reasons and will therefore miss the game on Sunday against the RS. But as I’ve said before, it’s all about priorities. I just hope that both days go really well……
It will be a bittersweet weekend for you and you will be in my thoughts but your lovely Kay must come first. I hope the sun shines for the bride and groom and wish them a long and happy life together.

That is a very striking image of him still using his WW1 cutlery at home. It’s almost like a part of him never came home.

Family heirlooms are so precious and even more so when there is no financial value. In my mother’s kitchen, on the dresser, is the serving plate her mother used to present the Christmas turkey on. She told my Mum that was her own mother’s good serving plate. That is something I would never let out of my sight, purely for the occasions it must have graced over the years.

I’m sure your daughter understands Pete but such a disappointing time for you both. In any event, I hope everything goes well for her on her big day. And congratulations to you Pete, a testament to you as a good father who set her on the right road.

Getting a phone call from a different surgeon today regarding my hip replacement, hopefully he has good news and I can get it soon here, otherwise I could be going private

The pain I have is very bad, I have bone on bone and wouldn’t wish the pain on anyone, so hopefully I get the news I’m looking for 🤞
Hope you had some good news.

I had never thought of it like that but in a way you are right, part of him never did come home - his elder brother died of wounds in France after the first Battle of the Somme.
I would treasure that plate too, the memories it must hold….

I was looking at some recipe books of my mother yesterday, must admit there was little tear in my eye. Wish though my writing was as good as hers, mines an absolute scrawl, no matter how slow I write - should have become a doctor.
