He was one of our top earners (supposedly on £120k a week) and came up with 6 goals and 11 assists in 123 games. It's reasonable that we wanted more for that money.

He is talented but it was never really clear what his best position was and he gave the ball away a lot.

The more I think about it, the more I think Merlin will start if Jimmy has to play left back. Moyes went on and on during the window about not having enough quality midfielders. If he thought Tim was the answer, I suspect that might've come up instead of saying how short we were there. Merlin has been getting positive reviews, and with another week of training, I can see him getting the nod.
