2025/26 Merlin Röhl

Thanks for the replies. On that basis we seem to be over a barrel. Personally think we should use that money elsewhere.
I don't disagree. The only thing I'd say is that if we get Europe next season, we will need to use more of the squad and I suspect Alcaraz and maybe Gueye will leave in the summer. Rohl and Armstrong will see more game time next season.

It's a shame for Rohl because the position he is most likely to appear in is taken by two of our most important players. As we don't play enough football for our players to be truly knackered, and we're always in tight games up to the very end, he might need to wait for an injury/suspension for Garner or Dewsbury-Hall to get a proper chance. That's just the nature of being a back up player, and he has had injury issues himself.

The context will change next season with Gueye getting older and depending on any departures. We'll still need him.
At least this thread might finally change to the player rather then page after page about his contract..

He's even behind Tiny Tim off the bench so this doesn't wash for me

Personally I don't really understand why so many are completely writing off Röhl. Barely played and has looked mostly decent to me when he has, seems to be fairly versatile as well. And despite not having played much recently was talked up a lot by Moyes when he first signed.

I would say those wanting him to be sold in summer will be disappointed.

Iroegbunam has been perfectly fine, a much better player than you would have expected from the FFP shenanigans. It's obvious Moyes prefers him in Gueye's place over Rohl. Why is he not afforded the need for game time and experience shouts like Rohl is anyway?
I'm arguing that Tim has made himself first sub off the bench over Rohl.

If Rohl wants to play then the first player he needs to jump ahead of his Tim.

Can’t see Gueye leaving. There was an option for another season, and he starts every game.

Think that's probably an addition to the argument rather than worthy of a doesn't wash, isn't it?
Is it?

If have expected the lad we want to spend 20 million on to be getting picked ahead of the 10 million FFP gamble.

I find it rather disappointing and a bit of an indictment on him that he isn't.

Given Moyes comments/how much he rates the lad, and his injury issues here and his former club directors comments - I think his lack of involvement is fitness related.

These are the Moyes quotes on Rohl from the other day:

“Merlin, I think, is going to take a bit of time,” he said. “He’s going to fall over the ball a few times and he’s going to be a bit uncompromising at times, but he’s got other attributes which are really important and I hope that he’ll pick them up and he’ll get better as we go along.

“So he’s done a really good job as well. [Villa] was more like what we were hoping to see from Merlin as well, and I think he’s got more to come.”

'he cant really play football but he is massive' is a hilarious quote
