2025/26 Merlin Röhl

Idk how we've gone from loads of people massively overhyping Merlin after him playing about 20 minutes of football for us - to loads of people deciding he's definitely rubbish and a waste of time and money after him playing about 50 minutes for us.

People want us to sign young development players, they just don't want to actually have to watch them play and develop.

Not at all, Tim is getting a bit of stick currently but he's developed at the rate I'd expect. Got games start of last season where he looked lively but you could see his off the ball positioning needed work and so Dyche took him out and then he was in/out under Moyes.

This season he has started plenty of games so he's getting the minutes.

Freiburg in last few years have been regularly finishing in top 7 in Bundesliga so Rohl has that and experience in Europa league so I would expect him to look more advanced in his game than Tim tbh even with the injuries.

His injuries are a problem if DM thinks he can be a Mario Fellani so quickly DM is deluded....

The only thing anyone can say based on the evidence so far is that he’s a crock.

Keyword - Bundesliga.

So many players been way, way more hyped in Bundesliga than Rohl and then come to England and fail to make an impact. Sancho, Werner, most recently Wirtz. All very experienced, very highly rated but all came here and struggled to adjust to the pace and physicality.

With that being said, Rohl literally has not played enough to form an opinion either way. Like I said in original post people want us to sign young players with potential to develop, but its like they don't understand what that actually means. You might have been expecting Rohl to come in and immediately start bossing PL games in midfield, but I promise you that wasn't what Moyes or recruitment team was expecting when signing him, and that's completely fine.

As always with these things though, there’s just no need to ignore the enormous gaping hole in the middle of the two extreme opinions being put forward. Did I expect him to come in and ‘immediately start bossing games’? Not at all, no. I sort of hoped he might have done more than look pretty underwhelming in half a dozen sub appearances by this point though, I don’t think that’s hugely controversial.
