McCarthy and young Ross...

Today I have seen the start of a midfield as good as Ball, Harvey and Kendall. I don't say this lightly, having watched the holy trinity through their period of utter dominance in the 60's, but these two kids have everything to become Everton Greats.............

Except Bill will sell them and we'll be back to square one.

We made 5 of the very best signings of the summer in McCarthy, Barry, Lukaku, Deulofeu and of course Martinez

(only signings who can compete with them for the impact they've had is Ozil and Remy).

To think for years we were moaning at Moyes to improve the centre of our team

Negredo for 16 million looks a bargain, the Romanian lid at Spurs looks class to and well worth the reported 8 million.

I'm not so sure about the Messi comparisons but Gauld is similar to a young Joe Cole. Their young centre half Souttar and left back Roberston are also highly rated.

Hughes is in a similar position to McCarthy imo - seems to be good enough but none of the teams at the top seem ready to take a punt on him. I'm convinced he will be great whoever he signs for. I really hope it's us

Certainly appears that martinez likes having young players around and not afraid to take a punt on them...I imagine a lot will depend on who he can ship out and if theres any chance at all for lukaku and whether wr can get gerard for another season.

Would love a top young centre mid to come in and then we'd be sorted long term there.

I have a feeling David Lies will make a bid for Ross in Jan. If them rumours of what he said in that hotel about 'If we want to play it that way.' I have a feeling he will take his United angst out on us.

He can try what he wants - there is NO way they'll be buying Barkley in Jan

I reckon its baines off to utd. Cash in for roberto to make a big plunge in the market.

to be honest as much as I love Baines it wouldn't be the worst thing. We showed at the end of last season and in the last few games we can cope without him and we're still not in a position financially where we can turn down top bids for our older players.

Imagine what Martinez could do with £15m from Baines sale plus money that should be left from summer dealings and january sales of Heitinga / Jelavic plus the removal of them from the wage bill.

Indi Martins and one/both of the young defenders from Dundee (left back or centre back)?
Will Hughes?
Fernando?
Gauld?

I recall a few months ago and us sellnig Fellaini and baines would've meant the end of the world for a lot of us. What Martinez has done to change the whole feeling at the club has been amazing

Don't believe those rumours to be honest but I wouldn't worry about Ross leaving at the moment anyway. Moyes isn't going to pin his hopes of saving his job on Barkley. His next signing needs to make a big impact on the team or he'll be lucky to last the season.

My guess is thats what will happen. A long term replacement for distin who can play alongside stones in the future and a young centre midfielder.

Could be indi-martins and hughes, then someone from out of the blue as well....

Unless he goes for a big name.

Wouldn't surprise me if Roberto went back to Wigan for James McArthur.
He's pretty similar to McCarthy (age, experience) though a bit more about charging forward these days and they've run a midfield together since they were kids (Hamilton then Wigan) so they are pretty much telepathic. Would certainly be a good squad player to have in case of injuries. Martinez has bought him once and knows what he can do and how he works with McCarthy plus he already knows the 'Martinez' way of football.

Would be a good shout for the couple of million it would take to bolster the squad.

i'm hoping that now he'd had more time with the squad and has witnessed the quality here he'll be less inclined to go after any more Wigan players (and I'm one of McCarthy's biggest fans before anyone suggests that's having a go at him in any way).

No thanks

Just saying it wouldn't surprise me if it happened.

Or Ivan Ramis. Big centre back, comfortable on the ball and he will be in the final year of his contract this summer.
He had a knee injury last season.
