Yes mate, we clearly don't need to bother with any future seasons because we reached our absolute optimum last season. Expecting to challenge for the Champions League once again is unrealistic, far fetched and asking a bit too much of Martinez considering he will only have been here for three years by the end of next season.

No, our expectations need to be lowered now that Martinez is in charge. All this talk of challenging for the Champions League once again is just far-fetched nonsense drempt up by self-entitled morons. No, a top half finish is a great achievement for a club like Everton, and that's what our expectations for next year should be.

Not sure if this is a wind up?

I get confused over expectations

My belief is there will be seasons were we really challenge for a top 4 place, but it will take us to have a season that everything clicks and one of the regular big boys slip up.

There will be horrific seasons were we get everything wrong, these should be scarce but can happen

In the main my expectation is to finish between 5th & 8th and at some point to challenge the top 4
I say this as I believe in that group of teams there are very fine margins in were you finish
In that group of teams I include Liverpool, Spurs, and 1 other team who exceed expectations.

I then hope on top of this we try to play a good style of football and show good commitment, plus see young ones come through the ranks

I hope I am not appearing to be lowering expectations, but it believe there is a ceiling that will take money or a manager to build something that can break through it.
Is RM the man to do this, I don't know, but he is what we have and I honestly believe swapping managers at every bad spell will not give us the base to build a squad capable of challenging.
I was a big fan of Moyes, but there was a realisation that he was never going to take us any further than he did. I would never ever knock him as he was superb for us, but it was time for change, for all parties
RM is the man in charge so I support him, and I propose to give him time, maybe not 11 years though :)

Who's giving him that free pass?

To all the 'Martinez out'ers, at what point will you change your mind?

IMO the swing in people backing him to wanting him out in the space of 3/4s of a season is a fair reflection of the increasing impatience in football.

I was never worried of us getting relegated (I know we're still not mathematically safe but it would take a monumental cock up to go down now) and we're currently as close to the top 8 as we are to the bottom 3. Of course this is unacceptable based on our squad and what we did last year but I don't think its cause for Martinez to lose his job. Back him in the transfer window, the players will have a summer break and get them back for a proper pre-season. If there's still no improvement by Christmas next season, my mind might start changing then.

A good finish to this season for starters. Starting next season with a different style of play that gives us a chance.

All this will go out of the window though if Barry walks straight back into the team ahead of Gibson next game. If this happens he is showing he clearly has favorites that play regardless of form and he can go now as far as I am concerned.

I'm not trying to be be funny here, but what do you have in mind when you say that?

very fine margins

Saw that and peaked at the table.

We have lost one more match than Swansea, and have identical GD.

They are 8th.

Not an "expectation", more an observation.

Oh, and I dont think they were great in Europe this year either. (mostly ffs).

It can be that close at times
Not excusing the season we have had though

The tippy tappy stuff that plays into the hands of any opposition that want to put 10 men behind the ball. We are not comfortable with it and I don't believe it works in the PL. Last 2 games have been positive in this respect.
