Last season was white hot pace and maybe wont be repeated again for a decade or more.

Think it's slightly the other way round tbh. Last season was a freak season just as much as this one us - there's no way Martinez was expecting to be that successful so quickly. The plan will have been to reach that level in 3 or 4 seasons time. Pretty much everything he's doing is building and planning for the future - the whole 'having money just makes the process quicker' thing. If he pulls through and comes good, we will see seasons like that again, and better.

Questions, yes; demanding he be sacked, no.

....the 'demanding' he be sacked is a natural progression for some via the feeling it's all created mate. I'm not one DEMANDING he go but I totally, utterly get why some are, I'm not quite there yet though (I don't think), that muchly depends on the next two/three games. But I'm far from happy with him and have ZERO confidence in him/it currently...

And the most distressing part of that is he seems intent on NOT altering ANYTHING that's gonna make me/us feel any different about it.

This ISN'T second season palaver either, the DaveK, it is WAY more, you must accept this in some part? Any thinking person - whether pro or anti - must see, clearly, that there are issues internally RE the way he's going about things, yes?

If you apply your argument to anyone in a 'normal' job it just doesn't cut...

'Yeah, I know, the Gnomes I've made the last 8 months have been terrible, really poor quality and they've nearly ALL fallen apart.....but I made a GREAT one 12 months ago, yeah?'

'Wait, didn't you make a LOAD of dodgy Gnomes in your last job too?'

'Errrr, yes, yes I did...'

'Bye'

(No Idea why I picked GNOMES as example, apologies)

About Martinez's past relegations...

The entire reason he was chosen for this job is because he kept a team in the Prem for multiple seasons on non-Prem money, while winning the FA Cup and playing rather nice football at times. The fact that he kept them up so long is an achievement more than the fact that they eventually (inevitably) went down.

Mind you, this is only what I've read, I didn't follow Wigan through those seasons.

To be fair though, league positions he actually did worse than his predecessor Bruce....

For those who forget that it wasn't just the points, it was the swagger, the goals from open play, the almost complete transformation in the way we went about things. We looked a totally different team (those Martizez/Moyes "hot spot" comparisons on where most of our passes and players spend time on the pitch just underscored that transformation). Don't know what we've lost, but I'm not going to forget that Roberto played a key role in that last season.

Spot on mate. It was one of the biggest transformations of a club's identity ever attempted.

An audacious attempt by Martinez to get us back to our traditions. It's run aground this season for a variety of factors, but we ned to see this through.
