Martin Samuel's loan market articles

Right. It's entirely possible that without the loan system they would've not signed a different player and still poached Rodwell. I think it still raises the chance he would have stayed, though.

We haven't sold every player coveted by top teams though. I mean we fought tooth and nail to keep Baines, we seem to be fighting to keep Barkely, Fellaini only went for a monster fee. I dont agree that Rodwell is a good example because I dont and did not regard him as a top or desirable player, and its my view we realised this, took an active decision to sell, and decided to flog a rubbish player off.

I still say shut down the loan system, which would then allow us access to a different area of the market, which would render the likes of Rodwell completely irrelevant as he will be superseded by higher quality players, and Lukaku, Barry and Gerard would by extension probably be ours anyway, so unless he has an agenda against us, I dont know what Samuels is talking about.

He says it in the followup Q&A he did that included a lot of backpedaling.

He can backpedal around the globe as he wished, but he missed the point that people sign for the big boys either for money or glory, apart for the metaphorical love of the game. He's simply trying to replace a loan system with one forces players not to play, and ultimately, might give more push to the often mooted franchise style closed shop "European super league".

To me the Italian system of co-ownership actually worked. At least, standardize how loan contracts work, make sure that they essentially works as a third person ownership with the original club holding no special rights, no right to a recall... etc. That's where to start instead of slamming the door and let those inside it moot for a splinter "major" league.

The absoloute biggest annoyance of this weeks criticism of the loan system is that this is the 2nd time this season we have heard it, I'm sure it was in and around December it all kicked off on social media and written/broadcast media and IMHO its pathetic that yet again its reared it's ugly head and both times it has really been mentioned coincided with Everton doing well, When we were Drawing away at Stoke and WBA or on a league run of WLWLWL no one gave a shyte now we are back up their as in December they do. I say Feck fat squinty eyes and anyone who periodically bring up their qualms with the system based on the main beneficiary of the system doing relatively well. That happens to be us, it must be a point worth making that if it were us hammering any team for doing what we are doing we would definitely be living up to the name 'the bitters'.

Well I say anyone moaning is a bitter little seat sniffer and they can quite simply do one, all annoyed because Everton may break up the 'big 4' without having millions to spend.

Thing is, this is the first time anyone's moaned about hte loan system. So they don't mind the loan system just so long as they're Victor Moses and Cissokho.

It's just so infuriating, barely a peep over the disgusting way City and Chelsea have bought their success but a team on a limited biudget makes a couple of shrewd loan signings and everyone starts crying.

It's just the clearest sign yet that the media is embedded with Kopites and Mancs and really will do everything to stop Everton's renaissance, we're a problem they thought they got rid of at the start of the pl.

It's ridiculous because if you loan a striker it's going to have a disproportionate impact on the 'revised' table. It also doesn't tale into account the fact that other teams wouldn't be able to have all the players they have if they didn't loan players out.

Would Liverpool be able to have such a high wage bill if they couldn't loan 10 or so players to other clubs?

And, of course, the main problem with such an article is that the loan system is available to everyone, it's a lot more egalitarian than the transfer market in fact. So freaking irritating.

Are you saying loan players replaced Rodwell? Because that's not true. What loan players did we replace Rodwell with? None. We couldnt wait to get shot of him as he really was doing very little by the time we sold him. I dont think th there was any will on our part to retain him because he wasnt good enough.

Yea Rodwell's agent is going to recommened he turn down a massive increase in salary to move a few miles east. Plus given that wasting on the bench at City >>>>> starting for Everton when it comes to getting picked for England what's he going to choose?

I've watched Martin Samuel on Sky Sports for years and for me he always comes across as a Spurs fan (I'm not sure if this is documented anywhere). However this is the 2nd or 3rd time this season he has had a pop at Everton for utilising the loan system, it's pathetic.

All the top European teams use it, he needs to get over it and move on, if the rules change we will change, until then we will utilise the loan system as it is.

That is quite simply one of the most idiotic things I have ever seen (for reasons mentioned in many posts here already). Wow. Might as well do up a league table of what the league would look like if all our players were replaced by Frankenstein's monsters.

funnily enough in a similar model done for the spanish league Athletico madrid would be relegated by now having conceded every single shot on target that was saved by a loan keeper, bottom, pointless with a -320 goal difference

I agree the loan system is essential, I agree the current rules are flawed. Simple solution, limit the amount of players a club can loan out at once. Reduces incentives for stockpiling, still gives clubs an opportunity to loan players out for experience.

And Samuel is clearly an idiot from what's been quoted, don't need to click on his link because that's exactly what he wants.

OUTRAGE.

I don't understand why there's been so much of a fuss over this. It's the Daily Mail for goodness sake, some of the biggest WUMs in media.

We're done boss things and there's nothing they can do about it.

Expect a new article from this weapon in the Sunday Mail!

Hopefully West Ham's loanees decide to finally do something in midweek and he can write another article on that, too.
