Martínez is shown the scale of the task to change Everton's style

During the game, you're never going to get 'calm' though.

People will express their emotions as they watch the game unfold, it doesn't mean that they're making judgements about the suitability of the manager, they're merely vocalising their thoughts on a passage of play.
Wouldn't it be better if we supporting the manager and the players instead of murmurs of frustration on the first manager home game.

What so everyone should sit there in silence as some form of show of support?

People will always vent their spleen at a misplaced pass or a poor passage of play, it'll always be like that & always has.

Good read.

The whole Martinez saga has only shown me just how many utterly clueless fans we have. I thought Evertonians were better than the average football fan, but perhaps not.

Dont be fooled mate, we have our fair share of whoppers. you only have to sit in goodison every other week for 90 mins and listen to the tools.

I think people need to make more of an effort to support them and the manager.

They are not going to improve with that attitude imo.

Slightly off topic.

Woman in the Family enc behind me on Saturday said "Fellaini has not been interested for 2 years" !!!!!!!!!!!!!

The ground was mainly quiet, that why you could hear the murmurs between the chants of Everton.

The passing game is great, if played right with players looking to make a forward pass at the right time and also at a high tempo.

Anything below that and it will bore the socks off people.

I like Martinez, seems to have us playing good football,

My only worries are it seems far to similar in formation to Moyes, meaning still Jelavic isn't being fed enough, we need to either go 2 up front or pass, pass, pass until the final third then go cut throat.

We go on about possession in the last 2 games, 70% etc, arsenal beat fulham 3 1 and had just over 50% we can have 90% possession but if we're not getting the ball in the back of the net it means nothing.

Get Kone up there with Jelavic against Cardiff, he'll feed Jelavic and be a threat himself

Although it felt for me that our play was pretty much he same as many games over the last two seasons, Distan and Jagielka were making far more passes than they would usually.

You know nothing about my posting record on here concerning Moyes. He had my total support for a long, long time before I turned against him (you might want to try that yourself with a new manager who needs complete, not partial, backing).

Go on then, indulge me, at what point did Moyes lose your support?

I doubt Roberto will be standing around with the squad looking at a print out of this thread going "lads, there is a magnificent thread, we are getting lots of support from davek but unfortunately *sniffs* Timak isn't sold on my track record or signings"

Alternatives: yes, exactly. It would have been a punt to bring in anyone. You'd have had Tuchel in and you know next to **** all about him like the rest of us, apart from watching a couple of Bundesliga matches and the evidence of a season.

Exactly. But as a lot of Moyes-outers pointed out repeatedly Moyes was one of the best paid managers in the world and therefore we should have been able to attract anyone we wanted. From that pool of talent I refuse to believe Martinez was the best possible choice given his woeful league record.

It's to be expected, as we've had 11 years under the regime (whatever you thought of it) of one manager previously.

I absolutely abhorred the caveman football we resorted to under Moyes from time to time and yet i'm shouting "launch it" whenever we're under the slightest of pressure near our own goal, institutionalised.

In Distin/Jagielka he's inhereted two absolute stone-cold hoof merchants, to get used to a change in style for them will take a long time, it'd be like getting used to walking on crutches after you've had your bloody leg amputated.

Martinez has had two games ffs, if we're dicking about like this midway through his second season here then fair enough, questions should be asked, but to show dismay at this stage is completely daft.

Passing for passings sake is just as anti-football as Stoke under Tony Pulis. It's boring and has no entertainment value.

This is what I most fear under Martinez. Personally I'd have preferred an up and coming manager like Malky Mackay (have done since January) but I like the cut of Robbie's jib so I'm happy to give him time.

Do you not think they are passing it to draw the opposition out so they leave space inbetween their lines or around the back. surley this is better than smashing the ball up the pitch and hoping for a throw in. we lost posession everytime we went long on saturday and they nearly nicked a couple of goals.

Aside from a reduction in the amount of long balls from the back (and there were still a fair few against WBA), there really hasn't been the huge shift in style some people have decided to see. Martinez has started relatively conservatively, clearly not attempting to make big tactical changes too soon. It's the same 11 and formation Moyes would've probably started with this season. And Naismith on for Mirallas (admittedly, Kev looks ineffective most of the time when the tempo's slow) is a Moyes move, especially when there's apparently the best young winger in Spain on the bench.

We pass the ball a bit more in our own half, but that's about it. We're still reliant on our attacking full backs to create most of our chances, we're still lacking a real quality forward who makes intelligent runs (perhaps Kone will do this season, but Jelavic doesn't have it), and there still isn't enough movement into space from our attacking players. But it does seem we're playing with slightly more intelligence.

Everyone just needs to give Martinez this season to establish whatever principles he wishes. We're a way behind five other clubs in the league at the moment, so anywhere between 6th-10th this season is fine as long as there's evidence we're slowly improving.
