Martínez is shown the scale of the task to change Everton's style

Remember in both matches it wasn't as if we were lucky to get a draw, it was way more on the lines that we were unlucky to get a draw.

We were dominating Norwich when some dude who's name eludes me tripped over his own two feet and had it turned into a picture perfect cross. Plus Norwich has always been good at home (except against the RS - who will do double on them with a scoreline of 11-1 - I'm starting to hate Norwich).

At West Brom, we probably had a couple penalty shouts, had a clueless ref who let West Brom thug it up and did create chances, granted not as many as we should have, but more than enough to usually score once or twice.

Granted I think there are problems, we get plenty of crosses in but our strikers are more effective when the ball is played on the ground and haven't sent in enough crosses on the ground.

My real only complaint is that before even McCarthy I wish the RW position would be addressed. Miriallas is running himself ragged out there and tiring himself out. Probably needs to be behind the striker as he's not the best defender and won't run as much. He's our most talented goal scorer on a team w/o one. Plus its pretty obvious that Naismith isn't the answer there either.

And if we are going to go after old Wigan players, why not N'Zogbia, who flurished in Bob's system and who's club would even pay for the shipping to send him here. Even if he's not the same player as a couple years back its still a tremendous upgrade over Naismith. Plus picking up talented players who for one reason or another didn't have it work at their new club is what we've always done here.

Do you not think they are passing it to draw the opposition out so they leave space inbetween their lines or around the back. surley this is better than smashing the ball up the pitch and hoping for a throw in. we lost posession everytime we went long on saturday and they nearly nicked a couple of goals.

A "small" opponent is happy for the stronger opponent to have the ball that far away from being a threat.

Think we are going to struggle initially (just like the RS under Rodgers at the beginning) until Martinez can get the players he wants, to play the system he wants. I don't think it will be long before alcaraz is brought into the side, as he is so comfortable on the ball. But what has already been highlighted is how slow and ponderous our midfield is. When you look at last nights game, how quickly their midfield moves the ball on, it is night and day compared to our midfield. Only Gibson has the ability to see a pass and move it on at pace. Ahead of this we certainly have a 3 who can open up any defence (Barkley, Piennar and Miralles) whether Kone is the man ahead of these to take these chances remains to be seen. It is up to Martinez to address this with the forthcoming sale of Felliani. 2 centre midfielders and another striker with the 20m raised is a must for me.

If he's tiring himself out playing once a week then he has serious fitness issues.

If the team plays badly then people have the right to comment on it. Doesn't matter if he's been here 2 months or 2 years.

It'd be stupid to have a situation where we just follow blindly without any scrutiny. It's a forum, we're here to debate.

Sure, but put that debate into proper context or else it becomes specious. If Martinez had been here two years, then such debate would be meaningful. Moyes had 11 years before a lot of us got fed up with him, Martinez deserves at least a little more time.

Merely questioning the tactics or the logic behind them is seen as treason on here of late.

What's both galling & amusing is that the prime protagonists of this view appears to be Dave & Nigel ffs!

C'mon Footers you're cleverer than that it's time scale (or lack of) Dave, me and others are defending re digging at Roberto.

We all know both sides of the Moyes debate are still at it as part and parcel especially as he's very much "live" in what's happening at GP till sept 2nd.

Honestly as much as I detest benitez if he'd got the job I'd let it pan out till at least xmas before getting stuck in.

I don't think anyone's got stuck in to him yet mate (albeit there's always tomorrow, lol)

I think there's plenty (me included) who are sceptical of whether his football philosophy will work out for us, given what we saw of him at Wigan. But I think to a man we'd all love nothing more than that scepticism being proven to be misplaced in the coming months / years

What I think is daft is being shouted down as somehow being disloyal for daring to pass comment on the first couple of games.

Jim White can do a "breaking news" special at 11.50pm on 2nd Sept live from Finch Farm......a handful of Neanderthals dragging their knuckles across the G4 surface to get a lynch around the Spanish matadors neck because we've drawn at home to WBA.

It'll be like 'Britannia II -The Sequel' and they'll usher Tony Pulis in under a Stone Island begoggled coat, whilst Dave Bassett waxes lyrical in the studio about Evertons magnificent loan signings of Grant Leadbitter, Lee Cattermole and Titus Bumble. A bunch of lids throwing warm Chang ( or piss) in the air shouting 'let's go fcukin mental' will complement the unfolding soccer apocalypse whilst in the background the shadows of Little and Large (well, Baines and Fellaini) scarper off towards the East Lancs in a waiting Merc driven by a dour ginger Jock.

Martinez out lids.

I could list a few names but the reality is that the correlation between wages and finishing position is such that any new manager has about a 90% chance of finishing where their wage bill says they should. With about 5% performing worse and 5% better.

If I said Thomas Tuchel for example based on the fact he has Mainz performing above expectations and plays attractive football I'm sure you could argue that this is in Germany, he may not want to join us etc etc

I don't by any means think Martinez is a rubbish manager, I obviously hope he does really well with Everton. However I think the likes of you, who continually bashed the previous regime, should be the last to give lectures about "getting behind the manager".
The thing is that Dave wasn't on Moyes's back from the word go.

And now we've flogged Fellaini on Twitter.

Marteeniz outvtwofold

Analyzing Martinez' attempts at changing our style of play after two competitive matches is like doing a movie review after only seeing the opening credits.

No, it's like going to the movies expecting to see an all action blockbuster, but after the opening 5 minutes all you have seen is some lovey dovey girly crap.
Sure, it can suddenly turn into the best blockbuster ever, but so far it is a bit of a letdown and you are sitting wondering when it is going to explode into life. Especially when the trailer promised so much.
I'm certainly not about to walk out of the cinema yet though - 5 minutes is nowhere near long enough to judge the movie.
