Marriner

They were the two most stonewall reds I have seen all season, the day that Karate kicking someone or kicking a player in the head is deemed a yellow will be a very dangerous day for players indeed
Apparently kicking someone in the head at a height of 1.8m or launching yourself into someones back studs first at a height of 1.6m is thought to be as dangerous as taking you shirt of and threatening the crowd with it.MAKES SENSE

I for one feel in mortal peril every time a player takes his shirt off. So I guess it is only correct that it receives the same punishment as karate kicking someones spine or trying to kick someones head off...

Where's Francis Benali appeared from all of a sudden? He was crap LB playing in a cdrap Southampton. Didn't hear from or about him for years. Yet now he's popping up all the time on . Problem is, he speaks well -- but invariably absolute garbage. His latest TV piece was on SSN this morning. Apparently Jags mistackled Milner and it was a cert penalty; and although Lampard did seem to make contact with Barkley Barkley went down easy and so deserved the booking!

Oh just swerve it. He wasn't great but we were so tame he didn't exactly have to do a lot to take the game away from us.
Point taken. But when you consider the pen should never have been given and they should have played for an hour with only 9 men then I'm sure we would have won the game. As has already been suggested, the premier league doesn't want a walkover (Chelsea) therefore they wanted a city win and due to marriner's performance they got one. Spoke to a couple of city fans at work, didn't help matters that they couldn't believe the decisions that went against us. If that officiating had happened against the RS or united, they would have asked for the ref to be deported to Siberia to ref in the non leagues. As it is marriner will probably still be officiating in the premiership come the weekend.

He's been dropped to League One this weekend.

Assuming that's in direct response to his performance on Saturday, does it not feel odd to to anyone else that there's no statement from the FA on the matter? To put it another way, should there be some measure of transparency from the FA if they're going to "punish" a referee for poor performance?

More curiosity than fume.

Hardly fair on League 1 clubs they have ref like Marriner lumped on them. Who's it punishing? Performance management doesn't exist in refereeing, even if they have an 'assessor' there each week.

What annoys me is the lack of outage from EFC about this scandalous refereeing performance.

It is just like the shoulders have been shrugged.

Basically, I feel Bobby should be facing a fine for going on TV and calling it for what it was.

The likes of Warnock and Big Sam would have had the TV studio down round them in anger.

I'm not sure what the smartest response would have been, but I have to admit I was hoping for a Monk-esque reaction from Bobby. Any job I've ever had, I'd be fired for performing as poorly as Marriner. League one is too good for the likes of him.

Huge numbers of kopites in this thread seeking to blame the referee for making inexplicably poor decisions.

Yeah mate. I'm a kopite.

For being angry at a ref disgracefully giving a penalty that wasn't. Not sending off two dangerous kick outs. Then carding our player for diving when it wasn't.

Makes me a complete kopite. YNWA etc
