like i said in the match thread, after 30 mins we should just have walked off the pitch as a statement of intent.
we all know how football works these days, you don't see many fairytale stories. a multi-billion bought title winning team who gets handed a very dodgy penalty and then stays at 11 men, when they should be down to 9 is always going to win. i'd rather see us risk a forfeit 3-0 loss and make a bold statement about the performance of refereeing in this league than to huff and puff down to the last seconds clinging onto false hope we would get anything out of that game.
at the end of the day, eto'o could have been paralyzed if that boot to the spine goes into the wrong place. barry could have been seriously injured as well with that boot to the head, no idea why a boot should be that high, but you see rooney get sent off for a little kick out a few weeks back, but that gets less punishment?!? With what happened to phil hughes the other day, you don't want to go overboard and try and banish physical contact, but you also have to be aware of player's safety. If the ref was happy to let incidents like that go pretty much unpunished, what else would he allow?
i'm sure both of today's incidents were accidental, but doesn't mean they weren't ridiculously dangerous and got punished the same as if a player takes off his shirt.
