Marriner

I'd agree he was terrible, but I disagree that he wasn't the reason we lost. We didn't deserve to win, we didn't threaten nearly enough to come away with all the points, but then again neither did City, without the penalty they didn't make Howard work other than on one occasion that I can think of. A draw would have been about the right result, but Marriner was awful, I'm having real trouble remembering such a shocking display from a ref, he was inconsistent throughout the game and it was seemingly always to our detriment.
Marriner's performance won't hide another insipid display by Everton. That's my take on it anyway mate.

On par with the Clattenberg travesty.

If you see any post match write ups and they fail to mention how bad he was......

West Brom: Mike Riley apologises over Chelsea penalty
West Brom have received an apology from referees' chief Mike Riley for the award of Chelsea's injury-time penalty at Stamford Bridge earlier this month.

Albion were 2-1 up when referee Andre Marriner controversially awarded a spot kick four minutes into added time for Steven Reid's challenge on Ramires.

apologies for my language in the match thread btw mods, it just grinds my gears that i'm quite good at my job, yet i see 4 or 5 referees each weekend who are totally inept at what they do and yet they'll earn so much more money than i will in my lifetime.

Can we ban him from our games in the future. We as a club should not tolerate poor refs but this action will just turn all refs against us.

From their employer's perspective they are doing quite a good job. As a completely random example, Marriner today has just made the title race interesting again.

I am stunned, absolutely stunned at how Mariner could give that penalty when his view is clearly obstructed by Baines, and how on earth he couldn't give red cards for those high kicks by Mangala and Fernando is beyond belief. If we all thought Clattenberg was bad, he has now been eclipsed by Marriner.

If he gets another Everton game this season, it'll be a total disgrace.

The ref association needs to investigate.

That refs performance makes him look more bent than a twelve bob note.

Not going to try and say the ref stole the game for Man C. as we didn't do the job properly.
BUT, what about ensuring player safety? and when cleats first tackles are that high why is there any question that the card is not red?

like i said in the match thread, after 30 mins we should just have walked off the pitch as a statement of intent.

we all know how football works these days, you don't see many fairytale stories. a multi-billion bought title winning team who gets handed a very dodgy penalty and then stays at 11 men, when they should be down to 9 is always going to win. i'd rather see us risk a forfeit 3-0 loss and make a bold statement about the performance of refereeing in this league than to huff and puff down to the last seconds clinging onto false hope we would get anything out of that game.

at the end of the day, eto'o could have been paralyzed if that boot to the spine goes into the wrong place. barry could have been seriously injured as well with that boot to the head, no idea why a boot should be that high, but you see rooney get sent off for a little kick out a few weeks back, but that gets less punishment?!? With what happened to phil hughes the other day, you don't want to go overboard and try and banish physical contact, but you also have to be aware of player's safety. If the ref was happy to let incidents like that go pretty much unpunished, what else would he allow?

i'm sure both of today's incidents were accidental, but doesn't mean they weren't ridiculously dangerous and got punished the same as if a player takes off his shirt.
