Marriner

From their employer's perspective they are doing quite a good job. As a completely random example, Marriner today has just made the title race interesting again.

Bingo. Call it a conspiracy, but you're living under a rock if you don't think football is entirely corrupt.

Im looking at that today and his decisions/refusal to make one significantly impacted the game.

That Barkley yellow.

Terrible also

Absolute shocking from him.
As a footballer its hugely frustrating coming up against someone who seemingly has an agenda.

The ref association needs to investigate.

That refs performance makes him look more bent than a twelve bob note.

He's not bent, or at least you would hope not... but for certain, he was totally inept and awful today. Can you imagine how Moyes or Whiskynose Fergie would have reacted had they been in El Bobs broken shoes??

That vine of martinez reaction to the head kick.

Spoke for everyone.

like i said in the match thread, after 30 mins we should just have walked off the pitch as a statement of intent.

we all know how football works these days, you don't see many fairytale stories. a multi-billion bought title winning team who gets handed a very dodgy penalty and then stays at 11 men, when they should be down to 9 is always going to win. i'd rather see us risk a forfeit 3-0 loss and make a bold statement about the performance of refereeing in this league than to huff and puff down to the last seconds clinging onto false hope we would get anything out of that game.

at the end of the day, eto'o could have been paralyzed if that boot to the spine goes into the wrong place. barry could have been seriously injured as well with that boot to the head, no idea why a boot should be that high, but you see rooney get sent off for a little kick out a few weeks back, but that gets less punishment?!? With what happened to phil hughes the other day, you don't want to go overboard and try and banish physical contact, but you also have to be aware of player's safety. If the ref was happy to let incidents like that go pretty much unpunished, what else would he allow?

i'm sure both of today's incidents were accidental, but doesn't mean they weren't ridiculously dangerous and got punished the same as if a player takes off his shirt.

With the benefit of replays and hindsight, taking the team off the pitch in protest would have been justifiable - heaven only knows what would have happened and the media reaction had it happened, but I doubt now that even City fans feel embarrassed at how all those decisions worked in their favour.

The one for me was Barkley...
It proved he was hell bent on booking him and thus had an agenda the whole game.
The kung fu kicks are harder to produce correct course of action because of pressure from crowd and speed of them.

martinez saw them both in real time i think, well he brought them up straight away. especially the barry one. if i was in his shoes i'd have walked on the pitch and nutted him when he produced the yellow - it was unbelievable. the worst thing is, i'm sure he reached into his back pocket to get the yellow. did he genuinely come to the match with a yellow card in each pocket?

at the end of the day, i've never seen a nasty everton. we've always been labelled as a bit dirty and the stats don't really stack up well, but i've never seen us be a nasty team. we need to bully and harass referees the same the rest of the top 7 do. they get flustered because they're all spineless human beings. if they weren't they would be giving out 6 or 7 reds every game.

they should have more self-respect than to let footballers shout abuse at them all game long. but they're not. and we need to take advantage. our players are too nice, they stay on their feet at times, especially in the box when they could easily go down (coleman is a great example of this), but nice guys finish last. we need to get into their face and harass them.

sad the game has come to this, but it's been like this for over a decade now and we always seem to be on the wrong end of decisions in games like this.

as some have pointed out, 3 seasons in a row we've been to the etihad and left bemoaning a crap referee decision to hand them a penalty, each time costing us points.

Mate I fully agree. Completely. Total shocker but I cant think of a time a player at home for one of the big boys has been sent off for a shocker. Refs bottle it big time and tend ti try keep the player on.
But Barkley was so strange ; he was adamant he was gonna book him.

I don't think he booked the one for the kick to the back of Eto'o.

If not the FA can investigate

But I doubt he'll get away with it anyway. It was that bad even Sky labelled it 'soft'
