Transfer Rumour Marcos Rojo

I can’t even be bothered trying to polish this particularly smelly and stinking turd.

If this is the best they can come up with after all the big talk, then they have made themselves look a bit foolish.

We know Keane and Mina are first choice, but to go for 5th choice centre back from a club we should be aiming to overtake this season reeks of desperation and lack of planning.

Ok I’m over the initial shock now.

He’s only cover, better than Eddie Bosnar, what could possibly go wrong?

If this is true there is no way you can dress this up as anything but a major failure to address the CB position.
Extremely poor.

Led up the garden path by Zouma's agent I expect. I've said all along that without an option to buy clause in his loan deal and the Chelsea transfer ban we were never gonna get him. That said, the fact Luiz is going to the Gooners shows it wasn't impossible. Difficult job - if we had got him today everyone would be praising Brands for holding out for plan A, if we fail he'll get criticised for not moving on quickly enough.

Personally think we should have moved on from this one a lot earlier, and that is not just hindsight talking. I've never read or heard Zouma saying anything other than he wants to make it at Chelski and saw all his loans as enabling to him to do so.

The Rojo thing is confusing if a permanent deal - just doesn't fit the Brands blueprint at all - but then neither did buying Delph and selling Vlasic/Lookman etc... perhaps not as much has changed as we hope or the pressure from Mosh for CL football is causing panic.

@Eggs what are your thoughts on Rojo?

I think opposition forwards would know theyve been in a game...

....as you know I think it always depends on how the manager wants to play.

I agree, a forward will know he’s in a game with Rojo. He’s very competitive and he has a bit of pace about him. I’d be a little concerned if we buy him on a permanent deal because he’s clearly not our strategic (long-term) preference - Zouma, Tomori and Smalling appear to have been ahead of him as far as enquiries go.

I have doubts over Mina/Keane combination against the best quality strikers. I fear anybody getting in behind will have a run on goal, that’s why I wouldn’t be surprised if whoever comes in eventually establishes themselves in the team.

Costa causes trouble at the other end of the pitch, big difference. It isn't 'HATRED' it's just that he's not a good enough defender for us. Way down the pecking order for Utd, under 2 managers and they have a woeful defense of late

There may be a reason their defence turned to poop when Rojo got crocked and dropped.

Too soft United...

I reckon if we had signed him 5 years ago we'd love him

Cos its not a loan supposedly

Im hearing loan...not an amazing source but a United one...not sure if its to us...just heard its a loan...somewhere

@orly Lets see if its true :)

That's the problem though - I don't think Brands had a strategy if Zouma failed.

And that's a MASSIVE black mark against him. He's portrayed this master strategist aura and this nukes that in one fell swoop.

Nobodies perfect to be fair

Just because he's seemingly ballsed this one up doesn't mean that he didn't show those qualities with the other signings. He seemed to do a cracking job with Juve in regards to getting Kean for instance

We're paying around three times his actual worth. It's a panic buy.

Silva may rate the player somewhat but he would have been well down on the list and we've had to pay stupid money because we've left it until the last few hours and have no room to negotiate. Whatever fee United want, we have to pay.

Panic buy.

Its not, he was on a list.

No panic.

Totally agree on his attributes...hes no slouch and as long as he doesnt go in 2 footed or puts a higg boot (VAR) i think he will surprise people.

I think him and Mina would be the most effective combo.

....a loan sounds fine as it means the strategic target can be brought in later.

All for signing him, preferably on a loan with a view of possibly signing him for free permanently after the end of his contract. Think he is a really underrated player, no defender would play any good behind that poor United midfield. With some real love from both fans and our manager he should be a great signing.

Zouma has led us to this mess - could have told us weeks ago he was not coming but led us on a merry chase.

Brands/Kenwrong deserve slating but Mr Happy doesnt come out of this without criticism in my eyes.

Utd getting £25mil for this crock, fair play to them. We must be bad mugs. Clearly we had no plan B for Zouma so we throwing money at any crap now.
