That's the problem though - I don't think Brands had a strategy if Zouma failed.

And that's a MASSIVE black mark against him. He's portrayed this master strategist aura and this nukes that in one fell swoop.

I reckon he did have a back up plan, Tomori. In one move(due to a David Luiz sulk) it is shown Chelsea were able to sell a CB and that they then needed Tomori. Obviously Zouma was getting the nod over Luiz and Lampard waited to make that final decision. We were held at bay and never told an outright no til this week it seems. Everyone wanted Zouma so it was right to wait. We got unlucky where Tomori is concerned but I don't understand why we can't use Holgate or GBamin if stuck... We definitely don't need Rojo anyway

Rojo in on a loan for CB cover. Left footed, great with the ball, got some pace, lots of snide, a lot of what we don't have. What is negative about this deal? If we are seriously going after Zaha, we can't spend money on buying a CB. He's a good alternative.

As much as I hope we don't sign Rojo, either on loan or permanent deal, I find it amusing that people get wound up by a supposedly quoted transfer fee of £25 million? I can't believe either the buying or selling clubs have released this figure, it is purely chinese whispers............ yet endless comments are posted on why are we paying so much for a 29 year old crock.

Costa causes trouble at the other end of the pitch, big difference. It isn't 'HATRED' it's just that he's not a good enough defender for us. Way down the pecking order for Utd, under 2 managers and they have a woeful defense of late

We're paying around three times his actual worth. It's a panic buy.

Silva may rate the player somewhat but he would have been well down on the list and we've had to pay stupid money because we've left it until the last few hours and have no room to negotiate. Whatever fee United want, we have to pay.

I asked @Eggs this, why would your backup plan to a player a club can't replace be a player from the same club that they can't replace?

Dont hate him but he's not great. Has a short fuse, you cant rely on him to stay on the pitch and has injury problems too. Reckon we will get about 8 games max out of him this season.

Exactly. Some horrific challenges in the last few years and you know he's not getting away with that here.
