Transfer Rumour Marcos Rojo

Has nobody considered that this may be a ploy by us to get mina to get a move on.

I just think they're total opposites so what Joyce says doesn't make sense. Then again, I can't remember two many instances of when a top team has bought two new centre backs to play alongside eachother.
Joyce hasn’t said anything on it yet somebody made that up, but I agree I don’t believe this for a second

Sorry I’m chatting wham here he has indeed said it

I’m a fan personally.

I think we could get better, but if it was a deal in the region of £16m (so what Utd paid for him four years ago) and his wages weren't too astronomical, then I'd be happy.

He's quick, he's strong and he's good on the ball and in the air. All of those traits are what we need in our defence, especially if we are going to play a high line.

Hmm I am not sure anybody ever said that...where did you see it ?

Plenty on here. Stones can't defend, Williams is solid (which was the perceived opinion of him when it Swansea) and at a 20M profit etc....

You never know how a player will turn out until you see them in the team.

People thought Keane would improve our defence too, look at the state of him.

Seen a few times papers saying silva wants to play 3 at the back(rojo would fit in with this) but we havent tried this once in pre-season??? unless one journalist made this up and the others copied him...

True.

I think it's about the fit of the player as well. Ironically, I'd say Rojo is more adept to playing in a high line than Mina is.

He's also left sided and can play in a back three if Silva switched to that at all.

It's strange, and someone pointed this out last night, that we would be seeing them as alternative options, though. In terms of styles of play, they are nothing like each other. Mina isn't left footed either. So that does beg the question why - again - aren't we identifying targets who are similar to each other (i.e. we need a left-sided defender with pace so have a list of three players who can play that way to chose from). That is a bit of a worry.

It'd only really make sense if we were looking for two CBs, in which case Mina and Rojo would probably complement each other quite well.

one journo (use the term loosely) made it up.

however, Silva has used three-at-the-back previously and did it quite a bit with Hull, so if he has the personnel to do so he may switch it up at times.

Digne and Richarlison ? Players we needed in positions we needed hardly and whatever your opinion is Rojo really worse that what we have he can’t be it’s imossible

Rojo is better than what we have.

Not a resounding feat, mind, but he is better and would suit playing in a high line.

I don't think we should be spending anything more than £15-20m on him, though.

Rojo ey.
Is he better than Williams / Holgate / Keane ? Most definitely. Jags at 52 years old or whatever he is? Most probably.
Get him in. What's the worst that can happen?
That's the minimum expectation and not a quality that makes me immediately want to buy him. There's surely loads better than that lot that aren't failed UTD players.
