I don't think improving on last season is anywhere near good enough this time around.
He, along with Brands, opted to sell Gueye and replace him with an unproven lad from Germany. To counter that negative, we signed apparently the best up-and-coming striker in Europe and a pretty proven decent Premier League attacking midfielder in Iwobi, plus got additional backup for Coleman and Pickford, and added an experienced head in Delph.
The "we don't score enough goals" argument simply cannot stand up with these signings, and if we actually continue to fail in front of goal then the manager must pay the price.
With this squad, he must have us challenging with United (only Martial and Rashford as 'proven' strikers, pretty average in most areas of the park - they even have to continue playing Ashley Young ffs), Chelsea (loads of youngsters with Tammy bleedin' Abraham leading the line, surely they are the weak link here), Leicester (great squad, good manager, young and hungry. You could bet on them fighting and wanting it more than us if it came down to it) and Wolves (same as Leicester - but maybe Europe will hurt them), all of whom I see as very similar teams. Perhaps even Spurs who looks poor so far, with an unsettled squad due to Eriksen and Vertonghen. I can see City and Liverpool - and at a push if they gel and improve, Arsenal - romping into the distance by Christmas, with positions 4 - 9 occupied, in some order, by Chelsea, Spurs, United, Wolves, Leicester and us.
If we're looking as bad as we are now by the middle of November, then the board needs to be doing their research on who could replace him in January. Never wanted Silva, he's done nothing for us so far and looks completely uninspiring on the sidelines and in front of the camera.
