My own honest expectations were that considering how poor we were last season with very poor Managers in charge and given that we employed a younger new Manager well before the season started which allowed him to settle in a bit, suss things out and bring in a few decent players to get started, that we would at the bare minimum do comfortably much better than last season. We have definitely looked a lot better than last season at times albeit extremely inconsistently and have had the odd decent result but there have been much more abysmal performances and results against poor opposition. It is points on the board that count at the end of the day and there is just no getting away from the fact that with just 4 games remaining, 2 of which are against top 6 teams, we still need 3 points just to draw level with last seasons awful performance.

I get all of this needs time and get rid of dead wood and bring in more players and difficult to find an alternative Manager but imo it was almost impossible to end up as poor as we have (results wise) with that same team but slightly strengthened and yet that is what has happened so in my opinion he has done dreadful in his first season and there is just as much chance that next season will be no different no matter how long he is given especially when you take his premier league history into account too. He has never done what we are waiting for him to do, at least not in this league anyway.

As a 50 year old Evertonian who has had the pleasure of experiencing some of the much better times, i just cannot ever accept mediocrity even though that is what Everton have sadly become in the last 20 years. Nowadays not getting relegated and finishing the best of the rest is seen as progress and doing ok.

It might be for some clubs but isn't for Everton or at least it shouldnt be and never used to be. The entire mentality needs to change.

That is just my humble opinion of course. :)

If Brands can find players and coaches as good as that Ajax and PSV setup we could have a decent side in a few years time.
Some of that Ajax football last night was like prime Barcelona

What that needs as well is a patient set of supporters. Obviously there's a luxury being one of the two big Dutch teams rather than being a mid-table Premier League side but if we want that we need to accept that it won't happen quickly.

This is what counts as a good season with forward progress now according to some.

2017/18 Under Keoman, Rhino and Allardyce

Played = 38
Won = 13
Drawn = 10
Lost = 15
Points = 49

2018/19 under Silva

Played = 34
Won = 13
Drawn = 7
Lost = 14
Points = 46

Apart from the odd decent result, the season has been mostly inconsistent, disappointing and frustrating imo and but hey we have a younger, cooler and more fashionable Manager in charge who needs time to be do something he has never been able to do in the premier league so all is good.

Evertonians LoL. :hayee: lol

With 4 games to go, there’s every chance we will improve on number of wins and overall points tally. That would be the literal definition of progress, surely?!

I get that you’re desperate to have a pop, and by no means do I think Marco is the messiah, but the progress we made in terms of personnel in the summer was largely erasing the awful job of last year so I’m not sure how we could have expected to be that much better off with this squad.

The optimist in me is choosing to view Fulham as the blip in recent times and therefore hoping that we’re finally seeing Marco’s influence come to bear on the squad. If the start of next season proves me wrong - and I’ve been know to be on many occasions - then I won’t shed any tears for his departure, but I honestly see no sense in binning him before then.

The results are remarkably similar and it could be argued that Silva has done worse than those that went immediately before him, or it could be argued that given the legacy he inherited from Koeman and Allyrdyce that he hasn't done so badly.

Another test would be to look at the signing of each of the managers and assess value for money.

He gets to start next season because we were in no real danger of relegation this time around. What a time to be an Evertonian.
I don't think that is the case.

He gets to start next season because continually changing managers is not a good way to run any club.
He gets to start a new season because we all realise that he inherited a bloated expensive squad earning huge wages that needs to be trimmed and will take time to do so.
He gets to start a new season because we have seen that the Brands/Silva signings have generally been successful and we have seen some excellent performances mixed with awful performances and the test for next season is to cut out the awful performances.

At present we are likely to finish eight or ninth I think. Next season I would hope that we will be fighting for sixth or seventh and the season after which will be the third season for Silva hopefully we will be chasing a top four spot..... I think those are the targets that we may be aiming at and time will tell us if we have the right manager to get us there.

Let's just sack Silva and hire another Silva and then have this discussion a year later because we can't move this club forward because people want everything in one season.

The discussion wouldn`t even be in years time though would it ?

If we weren`t in the top six and still in all the cups by Christmas, the usual plant pots would be shouting the same stuff as they`re shouting now > insert different managers name.

I understand the frustration I do because supporting this club has been pretty garbage for the past 10 years probably even more for some but it's clear that a club like Everton needs
continuity to move forward and to grow, It's not been a good season by Everton standards but sacking the manager would reset everything maybe the new manager would have a different way of playing then the players would have to get use to the new managers style.
He needs to be given time unless he puts the club in serious danger of dropping a division and that isn't an excuse for him to finish willy nilly in the bottom half.

The Plant pots as you call them (which i assume refers to me too) are just fellow Evertonians who dare to have a different opinion to yourself and others and they are posting their views and thoughts on an Everton themed forum which they are entitled to do and in most cases the plant pots as you call them dont resort to name calling of members who have a different opinion than them. Well i certainly dont resort to it anyway as i dont need to as it only serves to lower the value and credibility of the post.

The world would be a terribly boring place if everyone had the same opinion.

The plant pots are the “ select “ few who seem to have set themselves up as some kind of anti Silva lynch mob, who actively revel in defeats, just so they can shout from the roof tops that they were right.

For the record, that’s not you mate.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but when that opinion consists of regurgitating the same thing from dawn to dusk, it becomes somewhat tedious and renders it meaningless.

Jesus Christ, the opinion police again.

People are allowed different opinions, yeah. But we’re also allowed to criticise those opinions and laugh them off.

Fair enough mate but i have always found it more satisfying and profitable to discuss or just ignore rather than name call but each to their own i guess.
