Player Valuation: £50m
My own honest expectations were that considering how poor we were last season with very poor Managers in charge and given that we employed a younger new Manager well before the season started which allowed him to settle in a bit, suss things out and bring in a few decent players to get started, that we would at the bare minimum do comfortably much better than last season. We have definitely looked a lot better than last season at times albeit extremely inconsistently and have had the odd decent result but there have been much more abysmal performances and results against poor opposition. It is points on the board that count at the end of the day and there is just no getting away from the fact that with just 4 games remaining, 2 of which are against top 6 teams, we still need 3 points just to draw level with last seasons awful performance.
I get all of this needs time and get rid of dead wood and bring in more players and difficult to find an alternative Manager but imo it was almost impossible to end up as poor as we have (results wise) with that same team but slightly strengthened and yet that is what has happened so in my opinion he has done dreadful in his first season and there is just as much chance that next season will be no different no matter how long he is given especially when you take his premier league history into account too. He has never done what we are waiting for him to do, at least not in this league anyway.
As a 50 year old Evertonian who has had the pleasure of experiencing some of the much better times, i just cannot ever accept mediocrity even though that is what Everton have sadly become in the last 20 years. Nowadays not getting relegated and finishing the best of the rest is seen as progress and doing ok.
It might be for some clubs but isn't for Everton or at least it shouldnt be and never used to be. The entire mentality needs to change.
That is just my humble opinion of course.
