We have been shocking at defending for a couple of decades.. It started with Smith and has never been righted apart from a couple of seasons when we managed to keep goals conceded below 40. That's 20 years of slack arse defending. Let's give Silva half a chance.

The big difference is Silva needs players who will simply press and bust a gut to win the ball back. Not hard to find but it takes time. Martinez needed Iniesta and Xavi.

...and Martinez could have used both properly...unlike all our other managers since Kendall/Royle who'd have ruined them.

We're clearly already playing ten times better than last year, he can't make gash defenders not gash.

The start of the season is 'easy' - he fails to win any of his first 5 - possible the way things are going - hes 50/50 to get through October.

After that display I think its gunna take Silva at least 2 years to sort us out before we can start to have any decent goals. I hope he’s the right man for the job but it’s gunna take a while to find out.

Valencia are an excellent team. Three brain farts mean three goals but first half it was pretty even.

I am already impressed with the difference in football. Much more positive passing, attacking.

Have dcl and davies about 3 minutes of instruction before letting them on. Not his fault Tom just ran around.
