Seen enough of Bernard to understand he's not going to cut it here as a winger.

Clever player, like. I feel he'd be better inside somewhere. He has a great ability to gather the ball very quickly and control it. He can go by a player but then he'll struggle to go by another. I would defo keep him off the wing and stick Richarlison back over there. Digne is doing a hell of a job: first covering for Baines, now for Bernard. Richarlison back on the left will allow Digne to get a breather and also find a position advanced enough to swing those corker crossers in.

Bernard could be our David Silva...if we ever get a chance to play someone so freely.

What about when he cut inside and took on two Leicester players before lobbing a cross in for Richarlison?

Bernard worked as hard defensively as anyone else did. He doesn't have to be central to play well, and there's no way you've seen enough of him to say otherwise because none of us have - he's started three games, and impressed in two of them.

Against sides like Palace, maybe Bernard would be better suited to that central role, so he can nip in between the lines and get on the ball more.

But the main thing he did wrong yesterday was not keep things simple. He just tried a bit too hard and his decision making wasn't quite there.

Against United, I think he could have a field day if their full-back pushes on, so I'd stick with the same front four.

That will require more bite in midfield which is why I'd maybe have Davies back in, with Gomes to come on.

To me we're still a much better away side than a home side. We looked very much like Martinez seasons 2 and 3 under Silva at home this season. Battering our heads against a brick wall pretty cluelessly.

I don't think Marco will ever give us a team as unbalanced as the one we had with Martinez.

They were down to 10 men and stretched.

Not the pace or strength for a winger here.

He certainly wont have to plait sawdust with a team that couldn't play football to feet before he arrived. Martinez taught them in one summer how to play and that lesson stuck - with players and fans. This club's fans have professed themselves to "want to play the right way" only since Moyes left. There was no appetite for that from the majority while he was here, that's for sure. That's called "legacy".

6 minutes in that goal was Dave where he glided past 2 defender's and put one on a plate for Richarlison

It was 11 v 11 at the time
I still dont see a wide player there. He might come in from wide and cause a bit of damage between the lines, but the other option of burning defenders off with pace doesn't look an option to me.

As I said, he's a clever player and Silva needs to make sure he finds another position for him. If we ever as a club completely dispense with the belt and braces aproach to CM I'd like to see him in there carrying the ball and commiting opponents. He has a short surge and all the control required. Against all but the top teams away I'd consider a CM pairing of Gueye and Bernard.

Silva got lucky with the subs. It might have ended 0-0 and could have ended worse. Don't get me wrong - I'm a huge fan but the game was a bit of a mess really.
Once the new faces settle in it'll be great, hopefully.

There's definitely a wide player there, and a smart one at that.
but it's clear that certain games won't suit him because of his stature and speed.
C.Palace playing away was clearly one of these. There's a reason theyve conceded very few goals on the road. They sat their midfield on top of their defense and their full back was actually very good. Leicester played a more open game at home and Bernard had way more room and time.
It's not like Richarlison tore it up when he went out wide yesterday. Palace set themselves up well, for the most part.

In another era Bernard out wide would have been brilliant. I dont think it;s a goods idea now. Still, he's a proper footballer and there should always be room for them.

Bernard is about 5 foot tall mate

Wan-Bissaka is genuinely one of the toughest RB’s he’ll have to beat this season, 1-on-1 defending he’s one of the best in the league, Bernard didn’t get a sniff from him yesterday but not many will.
