Chelsea and Arsenal wins way out do the Fulham loss. Saturdays result didn't really bother me tbh, it happens.

I think Saturday's result was more a testament to how inconsistent we still are as club: be that the manager or the players.

The fact that we can compete with the better clubs is a real positive as if we can improve our consistency against the lower sides, then we're in a good place.

Everton have failed to beat any of the Premier League's current top nine sides this season.

God help us if every time we lose a football match 'the fanbase has been let down in a pathetic fashion' . There are only three possible results in a football match,win,lose and draw, and any of the three is possible in any match. That's why unexpected results happen...everywhere. The level of criticism levelled at Everton by its own supporters,and the level of expectation given our current transition situation is unfortunate, to say the least.

True. But there is a huge difference. Most if not all fans will take a hit if the team at least show up and not roll over. Criticism is fully justified at any team that from the first minute didnt want it as much as the opposition.

There's much more chance of this manager getting poached by other clubs than him getting sacked by Everton.

Some people have mistaken his calm on the touchline for weakness. But he's as tough as teak this feller. He has, for someone his age, a lot of experience in different environments. And I think he's entering the best part of his career now. We'll benefit from that, as long as we keep hold of him - obviously.

Thats a new angle. That we may have to fight them off.

He was told to improve on last season which in my eyes shouldn’t have been hard and he’s going to fail miserably.

On the other hand the style of football when we get it right is light years ahead of that dire last season.

He’s going to get the summer, he needs a striker who scores goals and Brands has to provide him that.

Okay, the term 'fact' may be not the correct or perfect definition; however, I do feel that we have shown the ability to perform well against the better sides.

Recently, we drew with Liverpool (currently top) and have beaten Chelsea (4th) and Arsenal (6th) at home. We've also beaten Leicester who are in the top nine.

Additionally, the result at Old Trafford wasn't what we deserved however our performance was strong in parts. Yes we've had also had some terrible results.

With fixtures against both Man U and Spurs in our remaining schedule, there's the possibility of victories against five of the possible eight - that's not too shabby.

Can we compete though? Well, don't let semantics get in the way...

Yeah but until the other week we hadn't beaten a side in the top 9.

In fact, it was one of my biggest issues with Silva - up until Chelsea, I shared in this thread;

Teams #efc have beaten this season – Burnley, Cardiff, Brighton, Palace, Leicester, Fulham, Southampton, Bournemouth, Huddersfield.

To then argue we just need to improve consistency against the lower sides to be in a good place is wrong IMO, when you look at points we've picked up.

We're inconsistent full stop, not just against "lower sides"
