He has never done the job!

The job you are describing is a scout. Yeah he may make a good scout, his dad was/is one isn't he?

He signed some good cheap players, he also signed some absolute dross.

Lets be honest Brands job at present is literally just a scout alongside negotiating alongside Kenwright for players.

He doesn't set the playing style throughout the club as we played 4231 last season then 442 now 433.

He mustn't do much with the academy as no bugger comes through it any more.

We don't have or utilise a DOF in the proper sense anyway so I would rather give it Moyes than keep Brands if a top DOF like Rangnick or Monchi wouldn't come aboard.

Again, to those saying people are just 'cry arsing'.

I personally feel most of the players Brands has brought in are good players.

Whether they're right for us - well that's also down to the managers to sort out.

I think, from what I read, Brands has set up a good scouting system, too.

There's plenty of positives.

It just feels, over the last 2 years that he has been here, that he maybe treats Everton the same way as he did in Holland. That certain bits can be added to the team each year.

That's all well and good, but unfortunately he has also left us short in certain areas and that has cost us chance to progress, which ultimately then risks setting us back before we can add the one or two quality players each year. So with one step forward, it feels like we take one or two back and end up going nowhere.

It's definitely not all on him, and he's done some pretty good deals most people were happy with at the time, but the only real reason that it seems worth keeping him on ahead of next season would be for continuity. I'm not sure that reflects brilliantly on him, tbh.

He has set up an entire scouting system and overhauled the club structure - that came into full force over the last few months.

What it does highlight is all those saying "yeh he's class" before he arrives clearly had never watched said player before otherwise they wouldn't flip-flop so hard on them.
We just judge a player instantly after a game or two and then it takes a lot of time to change that mindset. In reality, we should wait and see how they perform over a period of time before making a call. That’s why there’s so many yo yos on players. But as fans we’ll always act impulsively, it’s boring if we don’t.

Haven’t we got a head of Scouting too in the guy from Fleetwood?

Godfrey- >£23m
Mina- >£25m
Gomes- >£25m
Iwobi- ~£30m
Doucoure- ~£20m
Allan- >£20m
Moise Kean- >£25m
Gblammo- >£20m
Richarlison- >£35m
Digne- ~£14m
Delph- ~£8m
James- Free.

The guy seriously likes his £20m+ deals.

And that's the problem, we keep buying players that keep us still rather than improve us. Half that list and put in a Richarlison level of signing instead and we're champions league regulars.

Buying £25m players like keane, klassen and Bolasie is what got walsh the sack and sadly brands has been an almost clone in that regard.

And? I was replying to a suggestion he’d sign 2 players that he’s never signed with a list of those he actually had.
It’s a redundant argument but if I wanted a new central defender then yes, I’d be happier Moyes choosing one than Brands.
I mean he did sign a defender who he has evidently never seen play.

You cant compare anyway as Brands has been there, what 3 season and Moyes had over ten.

You don't know what Brands does (neither do I to be honest).

Honestly it doesn't surprise me at all that you think Moyes would be a good DOF. Each to their own.

I'll be very surprised if he's given a contract extension. I think if those in charge thought he'd been doing a great job they would have tied him down to another deal so he didn't get poached.

Imo Everton saying (well Kirkbride) they were going to look at his contract situation in Jan means we are keeping our options open and either are looking at someone else or happy for Ancelotti to have a greater say in the recruitment.

Fully appreciate he's had a very difficult job, and the vast majority of that is not his own doing.

I also appreciate that we're in a position where we have to take risks.

However, there comes a point where we have to say that sometimes our lack of action has simply not been good enough.

It might not cost us this season in the long run, but it's showed that - with this squad of players - we're very reliant on one player being fit / available to keep us going as an attacking threat.

That's also on the manager and he has to start thinking of ways to get the best out of what he has, but it boils down to poor squad management.
