The thing is transfers aside, nobody has any clue on his day to day role, transfers are only a very small part of it. He may be working absolute magic through the academy that will benefit us long term, we don't know. Stop judging him on transfers alone as any player at any club is always a risk, some do well some don't ,some fit certain clubs, some don't
That pretty much means no one can comment on whether or not he's doing a good job, because we don't know the ins and outs of his role.

Transfers and negotiations are more than a very small part of his role and their success or lack of will definitely have a bearing when fans are judging his performance as our director of football.

He could probably do all manner of signings but do you want him to pick trash like we are trying to get shut of just to fill spaces? We have to be more selective in our signings than we have been in the past.

If you got no one but trash lined up then you dont sanction the departure of Walcott and Kean, leaving us short of numbers. Both have incidentally proved useful for their new clubs

And neither proved useful for us.

Its amazing, people did nothing but slate Walcott, the 2nd hes sold he becomes Luis Figo to them.

He stinks, Kean stank for us, neither will be missed.

That doesn't mean Iwobi, Gordon or Bernard are much better, but it doesn't distract from how much Walcott and Kean stank for US.

So Brands signed 3 stinkers.

Don't know about this Walcott stunk way less than all you listed plus he plays on the right where Bernard and Gordon and Iwobi can't. I liked Walcott he's a very frustrating Footballer but he can be a handful if he's not being stinky, Ah well the deed has been done so rather not keep dragging it up but it's definitely a question mark against Brands for me specially when no one came in, I don't care about Iwobi being crap if he had a 100% hit rate he'd be at a better team than here. People have to accept he'll sign some duds (Iwobi) and some gems (Digne), The game is the game.

We also don’t know what’s his precise role is in transfers either do we? People blaming him personally for leaving us short but we don’t know to what extent that is on him. Maybe he spoke to Carlo who was happy with the situation, maybe there were financial constraints. We really don’t know.

Bernard and Kean i can't really fault him for. Bernard on a "free" seemed like a good deal at the time, atleast i had the hopes he could be the pienaar of this squad. Kean everyone had high hopes for. And remember we didn't have a world class manager as draw then. Iwobi i can't wrap my head around though

Marco Silva was the one who pushed for Iwobi I think, when we failed to get Zaha. Pretty sure I read that recently

Transfers are the biggest part of the job, don't know what you guys on about?

Then why t f did we buy him? I thought we were only buying players that both the manager and the dof agreed on?
We don't really seem to have any kind of a recruitment strategy though, even the players brought in this summer (as good as they are/have been) 2 are just players who have played for the manager previously so no real scouting involved with them as we know what we are getting and Doucoure is someone we have been trying to get for a while. Then yet again we seem to be short in certain areas of the pitch like the whole of the right hand side and Kean (who was rubbish) but no backup being brought in and now we are being linked with Isco who for me is just a big NO. I really don't understand what our recruitment policy is tbh, it seems quite random.

Your argument falls down with 1 word.. Iwobi. He stinks every time he gets on the field yet was deemed essential to the squad. Whatever your view on Kean long term, it doesn't matter, he WAS an option off the bench we now don't have. In fact we have no forward option
