Carlo Ancelotti has endorsed Marcel Brands to be given an extended stay at Goodison Park after
Everton’s successful
transfer window.
Brands, the club’s Sporting Director, has entered the final 12 months of the three-year deal he signed he June 2018. He has been under scrutiny from supporters at times, particularly when Everton were faltering badly under Marco Silva.
Ancelotti said at the end of last season that he and Brands had “a beautiful relationship” and Everton’s manager has highlighted the work the Dutchman has done to help drive the team forward; he hopes major shareholder Farhad Moshiri will reward Brands.
‘I don't know how long his contract is, honestly,’ said Ancelotti. ‘What can I say? He is doing a fantastic job and he has done a fantastic job. I have a fantastic relationship with him, the board still has a fantastic relationship with him; if he has to renew the contract I don't know.
'The job that he is doing is really good. I said before the transfer window we had the discussion about the new players and we were totally agreed to sign these players. I would not force a club or a director to sign a player that they don't like.
‘The players that arrived were players that had a desire to come and every one of us was agreed to sign them.’
Brands will be tasked this weekend with offloading some players, as Everton’s squad is top heavy. Ancelotti would be willing to allow Moise Kean to leave on loan if a suitable arrangement could be found; he says the Italy Under-21 striker has a long-term future at Goodison Park but needs games.
‘The plan for him is to improve his quality, to put on him more knowledge and experience, more ability to work hard every day,’ said Ancelotti. ‘It doesn't matter in our point of view how many games he is going to play, what's important is the fact he is really young.
