Cleverley was on £50k at Everton, a massive amount. He went to Watford and took £30K.

It's as though you and others want to hand Brands the lowest possible bar to get over.

It's his job to cut at least some of the good deals that the club has done in the past.

Why give him a free pass? It makes no sense. Let him earn any reputation he gets.

Good old Tom was 27 Dave, he probably has some desire to still play. People like Walcott has given up on football about 3 years ago, there'll approaching 30 and on massive paydays, they have no self pride and that's visible with the performances they produce

Nah, you're not getting away with that without providing some form of evidence

If you have got a player here earning £70k per week - they're not going to go and play for another team for £40k per week, for example. Classic example is Winston Bogarde for this sort of thing.

We either loan them out until they're worth nothing, saving on the wages, pray someone is stupid enough to pay them the same sort of money that we pay them or, more likely as was the case with Rooney, we sell them and agree to pay them a portion of their wages (the difference between what we were paying them and what the new team are paying them) until their contract with us expires. It might sound good that we got a transfer fee for them, but we might end up paying them more in wages than we got as a fee.

In some cases loaning them out and having all of their wages covered (if possible) is the best outcome you can hope for.

Within that range out on loan (which is what we're talking about): Bolasie/Ramirez. That's it.

The bulk of those on loan average out at about £40k-£50k pw.

Ashley Williams on £65k per week. Mirallas on £70k per week

(if we believe what is reported)

I think the only players out on loan we could get over £5m for are Vlasic and Onyekuru. That’s because they’re young and someone will see them as worth the gamble.

Players like Mirallas, Martina and Sandro we’re going to struggle to give away, then the next group down with the likes of Besic, Bolasie, Pennington and Niasse will get us small fees. I think Championship teams will take players from that second group but we won’t bring in any serious cash for them. That isn’t Brands’ fault, we just have to take what we can get and make them go away forever.

Why are you mentioning Walcott? He's not out on loan and we're not looking to get rid.

I presume that came with a substantial signing on bonus from Watford or loyalty bonus from us to sweeten that deal so he wasn't out of pocket by much if at all.

So let's just all expect Brands to have no impact or inspiration at all then?

Just accept buttons or pay the loaned players off?

FFS, half the feller's job is to get those players sold off as well as the other half of his job buying players in.

It's like asking someone to demolish a house and then build on the footprint...and then applauding him for walking away leaving a pile of rubble.

The underlying point though is irrefutable: trash goes for decent money these days; decent players go for an arm and a leg.

Brands has to step up and deliver on players sold this summer. He'll have to or we're knackered.

Personally, I dont think he has what it takes to strike an outgoing deal.

I'm not sure that was the underlying point I was making mate!

The reality is, players playing for the top teams always have a premium, and always did since the United days.

When you look at some of the deals, 15 for Mori, 10 for Klaassen, 10 for Rooney I don't think is too bad!

We've bought a tonne of rubbish under Koeman and Walsh and put them on huge contracts. It's going to be very difficult to move a to of them on. I'd say he's made a pretty valiant effort. If his own signings flop, thats when questions need to be asked.

Brands should be expected to negotiate firmly. The issue though is the product he's selling is very poor. The big challenge for him is to ensure the quality of product he has at his disposal is much higher.

I think so far him and Silva have done a great job in two windows to turn the squad around.

Last season we were looking at our only assets being Pickford, Gueye, maybe Holgate, and for a brief period Walcott and Coleman looked decent down the right flank.

Now we’re looking at Pickford, Keane is looking like a 30 mill player again, Digne is top class, Gueye has increased in value, Schneiderlin has regained some value, Bernard is great, Richarlison will be an absolute fortune when we sell him, Siggurdson is performing well again. I’ve seen enough from Mina to know he’s a good player too.

So we have started to buy well once again which is absolutely pivotal. That’s what ultimately drove us up through the Moyes years was good recruitment. Regardless of Moyes’ perceived tactical failings we still made European qualification and a cup final down to the level of quality we had in the squad.

If Brands and Silva deliver another window like last summer we will start to get to the point where our players will attract the attention of top clubs (Unlike last season) and if we want to sell it will be for huge money, at the meantime we may be able to offer European football to new signings (at the end of next season hopefully)

That would be a huge turnaround within a couple of seasons if we can achieve it.
