Perhaps they'll look to move Walsh to his Leicester position of head of recruitment

would be nice to see him in the capacity he excelled in previously tbh. There just doesn't seem to be a set in stone process atm. I don't really understand why walsh is tying up one deal and then kenwright is tying up the next.

Even more confusing is how this leads to our "one at a time" policy allardyce referred to, although maybe this is down to the squad size, as it clearly wasn't the case early summer.

'kin ell. Just scrap the post and go back to a manager who controls coaching and recruitment.

We dont need a DoF, it's a spare arse part of a job. We need a strong, industry savvy CEO.

Get a real manager in and a CEO and punt Allardyce, Walsh and Elstone
Disagree. For a simple reason Sean Dyche actually explained in his press conference after signing his new deal. He talked about the future direction of football and specifically the changes in length of time a manager gets in a job. I expect that average will at least remain the same if not get shorter. The position of DoF gives a continuity that will be sorely lacking for clubs that don't appoint one. Lurching from one leadership figure to the next without an overall structure which a DoF provides is dangerous imo.

A DoF makes no sense when you have an owner like Moshiri. He's a meddler and it cant fit with a DoF role.

besides that it;s a level of bureaucracy a club like us dont need.

It’s effectively a dilution if the CEO role. There’s the commercial side and the playing side. If you’ve got a top manager then you don’t really need one so Mourinho is king at Old Trafford and Woodwsrd just goes around wooing soft drink sponsors. If you don’t have a top manager or CEO you get the problem we had when Moyes was unaccountable to anyone and Elstone could just do nothing.

Ideally we should have a director of football reporting into the owner accountable for the football side of the club including coaching, transfers, recruitment, etc. a bit like top continental sides do allowing them to bring in first team coaches who know they have to perform without ruining the whole club. Sadly we just keep hiring incompetent people so any structure we propose is pretty doomed. Elstone has no ability and hates being measured to targets, Walsh has no defined role so therefore no responsibility and Allardyce has no pressure on him because he believes once again that he has to save us due to the fact there’s not a single dominant figure at Everton.

It all starts with turfing out the bean counter Elstone and getting in a real CEO accountable to Moshiri not protected by Kenwright.

I still find it amazing that many of you truly think having a D of F is a bad thing. I think it's completely nuts for the same guy to have the time to acquire talent AND coach talent.

It is very rare to find someone who can do both well.

Moyes did with us. Ferguson to start with but in latter years he effectively outsourced the day to day on pitch training.

For the good of the club we need a sporting director / director of football (whatever you want to call it) in overall charge of the development of the squad over time.

Unsworth currently has the head of coaching title so his role would need clarifying.

All clubs have some variant of the DOF role anyway, this is just a sign of the times and recognition that the entire process cannot be invested in the manager.

Different clubs, different titles.

We have to have someone to oversee the football "operation" and getting our hands burnt with Walsh doesn't lessen the need for that.

Very surprised though if a DOF would come in and Walsh keeps his job. It shouldn't be necessary to split the role into domestic vs. European/Global.

Another appointment is effectively an admission that Walsh isn't up to the DOF role. I think that's clear enough anyway.

We have a CEO who doesn’t make any decisions. Walsh (apparently) does the football side, Kenwright does transfers, Moshiri apparently makes the big decisions. What the hell does Elstone do?

I think it is important that the manager and DOF work together in perfect harmony. Walsh doesn't seem to get on with any of the managers, so it's a yes from me.

Yes. I always thought this DoF role was a case of Everton trying to run before it can walk in the new Moshiri era. He's come in and tried to emphasise a new way of doing things not suited to us but the normal business environments he's used to and those of the elite cubs he's no doubt been told we have to mimic.

We're miles from that situation where we need to worry about that. I know smaller clubs than us do the DoF thing, but our culture as a club is to employ one man to work closely with a owner-chairman.

I dislike anything to do with Dutch football.

Koeman
Van de Meyde
Klaasen
3 absolute failure at our club, well at least 2, I think.

It’s about time for some Germans

..never thought i’d vote yes, but I voted yes. I get the impression this job is too big for Walsh and he wants to concentrate on the scouting aspect. I might be wrong, but perhaps Walsh would welcome this.

My opinion, Walsh should be in charge of youth recruitment, give him a separate, 20-30m budget per season and appoint a true dof
