I think they're going to be too iffy at the back to win the title even with Kane. They'll continue to Jekyll and Hyde it unless they do something about their Europa-level concession rate. The RS at least have the excuse of having no CBs for most of the season to explain why they averaged more than a goal against. United doesn't.

I would actually tip United to be the side most likely to fall out of the top 4 if they buy Kane. He doesn't solve their problems and consumes a lot of resources. They're in second because of goal scoring, but finding the back of the net has diminishing marginal utility as you add goals. By contrast, preventing the opponent from scoring has increasing marginal utility as you deny them. The RS are likely to be able to defend next season and Chelsea is likely to turn over some attacking talent and assemble a cohesive attack, so I think they'll improve more than United would by adding Kane.

City getting Haaland playing in front of Foden is not a pleasant thought at all.
