A lad in my year at school, Martyn Hett, confirmed to be one of the dead

We were never close mates or anything, but I feel a real sense of sadness knowing he's passed away

He wouldn't have hurt a fly and truly embraced life

Thoughts with his friends and family right now
just a read a story about him which has set me off

he seemed like a really genuine nice caring person, apparently he was meant to be heading off to America today on a 2 month journey as well

so so sad

"It is also with the greatest sadness that I confirm that our colleague Anglika Klis and her husband Marcin lost their lives in the Manchester attack.

Our thoughts today are with Anglika and Marcin’s daughters Alex and Patricia who have suffered the most dreadful loss. I can’t begin to imagine how difficult this must be for them and I’m sure you will all join me in sending our most sincere condolences"

Came home to that in my inbox in an email from big bosses sent out to everyone in the business.
Ridiculous to think how the kids cope with that.

THE PEOPLE OF MANCHESTER GIVE THE EDL THEIR MARCHING ORDERS

Mancunians are known for their straight talking, so this was no surprise.

Mancunians are known for their straight talking. So, it was no surprise when they didn’t mince their words yesterday when the EDL rolled into town.

In the wake of Monday night’s deadly attack, in which 22 people died, the far right used the opportunity to attempt to use the heightened emotion to spread their hateful message and foster division within society.

This is unsurprising – they do it all the time. But, this time, Manchester said ‘no’. A small number of the EDL rocked up to the Arndale shopping centre with their flags and their shouting and their generally furious ways, only to be told to do one by locals.

Outnumbered by Mancunians who condemned their anti-Islamic rhetoric and their protest, it wasn’t long until the far-right hate group were clashing with locals and the police. Footage, published by Reuters, shows a man challenging members of the EDL outside the shopping centre.

“The people of Manchester don’t stand with your xenophobia and racism,” one local explains.

“The people of Manchester are going to stick together, no matter what religion you follow, no matter what the colour of the skin is. We’re not going to stand with people like you.

“We’re going to stick together, because together we are stronger and the people of Manchester are not going to be afraid of who is responsible for this violence.”

The latest figures show that, in addition to the 22 who were killed, at least 119 people were injured when a bomb was detonated at a Ariana Grande concert on Monday night.

Wrong thread mate......

It's staggering how the ever expanding links to people who knew of, or were acquainted with, the victims just keeps growing. The numbers touched either first, second or third hand becomes astronomical. Sympathies to you all......
Also staggering is the fact that the coward who did this was known by the security services for many years and to have had extreme belief issues. The mind boggles.

Absolutely tragic the continued confirmation of victims, especially some of the ages. People who had their wholes lives ahead of them, just taken away like that. The lad from Sunderland who has lost his sister and her boyfriend, seeing some of the stuff he's posted about them on Twitter and Facebook just breaks your heart.

My thoughts and apologies go out to those on here who know or knew of somebody who's been injured or even had their lives taken away from them at a time where worrying about safety is the last thing on your mind. Like many, we've all spent nights at the MEN having a laugh and enjoying yourself, you don't worry about anything like this.

Few family friends and people I know through school and uni went and thankfully came home safe and sound, despite being seated really close to where the attack happened but that obviously isn't the case for everyone and that's just awfully sad.

Do find it mad how the New York Times are releasing information about this though. Of course, they have an agenda against the current US President and administration and we have a thread for that, absolutely no need to get into it in here, but the fact they have 3D layouts of where the victims died and just details like that whilst we hear nothing - rightfully or wrongfully so - from our media, our sources, that is just mad to me.

Like, look at this:https://www.nytimes.com/interactive...ackage-region&region=top-news&WT.nav=top-news

It's just mad.

With a combination of deep sadness and pride I've been following what happened in Manchester.

Deep sadness for the victims, their families friends and everyone affected.

Deep sadness to see that some people still think you can combat hatred with more hatred.

Pride for the response of emergency sevices and ordinary people of Manchester which, in spite of everything, helps maintain my faith in humanity and my hope for a better future.
