Everything i've seen so far suggests people are patting him on the back.

I was disappointed initially that he didn't criticise the Officer more, but Burnham had also seen both incidents which the rest of us hadn't and that provides more context. The 2 lads assaulting the Officers certainly hadn't just had some minor scuffles where things got out of hand. These were vicious and violent assaults.

As i've repeatedly been saying in the Met Police thread though, there was no justification for the Officer to carry out his revenge attack on both men given they had both been tasered and subdued.

Burnham used some tactful comments though, unlike that scumbag Lee Anderson, who yet again has genuinely made a fool of himself, except to his cult like right wing supporters.

This.
Few in that other thread simply refuse to acknowledge the context and i think were genuinely pissed other cctv footage became available. Vicious and violent assaults is exactly correct and instigated what went on after. To simply want to brush that under the carpet is double standards. I dont care who you are. If you come out afterwards, which they have with their solicitor, and claim you're the victim. Any support immediately evaporates.
All involved should face the consequences of their actions.

Having initially thought you reap what you sow and the officer could be forgiven for wellying that guy in the head, I’ve now changed my mind.
The guy was restrained and no longer presenting a thread (it appears - if he was still struggling and close to breaking free that might change things) so the kick and the stomp were unnecessary.
What’s of more concern though is the officer was armed, but still lost his cool.
That got me thinking is he fit for Firearms deployment (looks like a big No), or is the fact he’s trained to use lethal force a consideration and affected his judgement in the use of force. Ie the upper limit of force for him is killing someone, therefore if you were in his shoes is a wallop to the head a significantly lower level of force to what you are trained to use and in that context not that big a deal 🤔

I don’t think it’s that controversial right? Could be wrong but don’t think anyone was saying the lads who kicked off were innocent or should be absolved of their crimes.
The policeman lost his head in a high pressure situation and will face whatever punishment comes his way.

I think you're supposed to wade in windmilling and take everyone else's view points as wrong and not yield your own hot take, rather than a reasoned response.

This does speak to a larger question on how much the rule of law can actually be enforced. So much of it is based on respect for authority and the idea that most people won't attack them essentially. What happens when that disappears, like in this situation?

I can see why they really didn't want to release that footage as it makes them look incredibly weak
