Man mark Bale?

Now isnt the time for half measures and protecting a draw. We are not 6 points in front of spurs looking to avoid defeat. Rodwell did a decent job on silva a few seasons back but as a result we were effectively playing with 10 men and dropped deep most of the game. The effect of man marking bale will isolate our strikers and stop us creating chances. For me we go with the same starting 11 as saturday and the same system. The players have 90 mins to get used to it and now have 5 more days to train on it. I also think 5 at the back will help with stopping Bale. He tends to play central but from the left. As the right sided centre back of the 3 that means jags will cover coleman in picking him up. As good as bale is i am quite happy with those 2 picking him up. The system also brought out the best in mirrallas and allowed us to get victor and jelavic on the pitch without exposing the defence. Lets go for it eh. I can live with spurs and bale being too good for us. I cant live with going there being negative and losing without having giving our best or creating anything. Its about time this team produced in a crucial game.

Are people seriously advocating Phil Neville to man mark Gareth Bale in 2013 or are they being sarcastic?

agree with most what ypu saying but don't see that going for it rules out making special plans for Bale. I don't think he is so good it cant be done but he is full of confidence now that even if we batter them he could win it for them. the reasons I have been pushing for three in centre at the back is that it not only compensates for a poor record defending high crosses and through balls but allows the full backs freedom and it seemed to give Mirallas freedom too. great teams from the past have usually had someone in their team who picks out the danger from the opposition and stops it at source. Fellaini looked like he could be that for us but we have chosen to use him elsewhere. not sure anyone else does it naturally so still think its worth sending someone out there just to do it.

I'm not convinced Coleman is the man for the job to be honest, and we'd lose his attacking threat. Gibson would be the one for me.

can Gibbo do it with his crooked hamstring? Ossie isn't a good enough athlete, Felli is a good enough athlete but too prone to yellows and still suspended I think? If it is to happen, the only option I would consider is to play either Jonny or Duffy alongside Distin and tell Jags to follow Bale, how this effects our shape when attacking is the issue with it

the system we played on Saturday can still work with a man marker. I would like to see Mirallas more central with Jelavic dropped for a man marker, either Osman or Piennar further forward, its not exactly negative

I'm terrified we will use that system next week. It was terrible. Spurs would absolutely tear us to peices.

.....Bale plays a free role and has so much flexibility it would be difficult to apply a man marker. Spurs haven't been that impressive of late and lets not forget they have form for wobbling at the pointy end of the season. We have nothing to lose and if we are still in it with 20mins to go who knows. I suggest we have a better chance of winning here than at Chelsea, Arsenal or our neighbours.
