Man City Banned From Europe

They don't have to prove anything they just get independent valuers into decide whether sponsorships from related companies represent a fair value. If not they just downgrade the sponsorship for FFP purposes.

State ownership doesn't really matter. It is about how UEFA treat related sponsorship deals.

City's problem isn't the ban. It is the way their sponsorship deals impact FFP.

FFP is based on a rolling three year period. Once City's sponsorships deals are revalued at their true levels and they lose their income from the Champions League it will be impossible to pass FFP without a Leeds United like fire sale.

Tbf I think thats very wishful thinking.

At best for City they'll bring FFP down ala the bosman ruling

At worst they'll serve the 2 year ban and the fine before needing to be more careful in future instances regarding the nature of their finances.

They'll still be a powerhouse in English football until the day the Abu Dhabi lot move on.

Aye it’s not like Moshiri didn’t make billions being a top class accountant and businessman is it...

City’s finances come from being born.

City were audited by Deloitte. Guess who Moshiri worked for.

As for Moshiri becoming a Billionaire from accountancy, come off it. Moshiri became a billionaire because of the way state assets were distributed after the USSR broke up. Abromovich was a foot soldier in Siberia and Putin's Judo coach became a millionaire when the USSR broke up.

Without their fake sponsorship deals City simply can't meet FFP. Now their sponsorship deals have shown to be inflated the Premier League will have to act. Their pain is our gain. There is now one less club ahead of us.

and yep. Hopefully anyway. The Premier League are cowardly [Poor language removed], we should be harrassing them every day to get City kicked down to League 2. I don't know why any club in the league wouldn't demand the same.

What lol sure he’s friends with Usmanov and worked with him but he’s not some oligarch mate. I mean he’s Iranian for one.

Yes defo.
The worry is that it only takes a security breach or a disgruntled employee and we are facing the kind of punitive sanctions that City are facing. Conspiracies have a horrible habit of unravelling. Personally if he is involved Usmanov comes on board and invests massively in the Stadium and Academy. The Stadium will give us a massive financial uplift in terms of match day revenue. Combine that with being able to attract the best talent in the World at Academy level and Carlo and I don't think we need to cheat.

Which is why we are committed to FFP and ran our sketchiest deal past the league before signing it

Might be reading this wrong but feels like most people want City to get done for it.

Seems a strange stance to take when you want Usmanov to pump loads of money in to the club while bending the rules to do so.

If City get punished for manipulating the system, there's no way Usmanov will be able to invest without coming under the same scrutiny.

Careful what you wish for ...
I don't think most want City to be done, certainly not Everton fans, if City beat this and FFP is abolished then Usmanov will be on board within days of it, and we'll have money coming out of our ears.

I wonder who were the clubs that complained to FA about this deal.
Need you ask

Kettle calling the pot black

Standard Chartered Fined $1.1 Billion for Violating Sanctions and Anti-Money Laundering Laws. The British bank Standard Chartered has agreed to pay $1.1 billion to settle allegations by the authorities in the United States and Britain that it violated money-laundering laws and economic sanctions.9 Apr 2019

I agree, but by the same token, if City don't overcome this (I think ban will be upheld but reduced to one season on appeal) then it exposes us albeit on a lesser scale for being dependent on a model that will have been shown to be in breach of the rules, however misguided and stupid I and many others think FFP is.

Our owner has not sponsored us at all

No, but you could say our owner's owner has if you were looking at it in a real-world way. We have to trust they know what they are doing in terms of adhering to rules and legality but the second we were to raise our head above the parapit in competitive terms then you can be sure other clubs will be protesting and asking questions at league level. It won't be an issue whilst we're crap.

I'm a little uneasy about the whole USM thing for that reason only, I have no moral or ethical qualms at all. Being Everton, they would probably change the rules retrospectively.
