Man City Banned From Europe

Not sure if you follow US politics but i see this like the Trumps impeachment in the Senate. People thought whole trial thing would deter him from not doing things he'd previously done and respect rules. However the trial/acquittal have had the opposite effect, he's become even more brazen. If City win the case, FFP is dead they will spend like we've never seen before.

If City wins (or the punishment becomes so watered down that they may as well have), that would be tantamount to CAS saying that leagues may not regulate. If you can't punish the member clubs for accounting fraud, what can you punish them for?

City's best hope is probably a reduction in the postseason ban to a single year.

I wonder how long this is gonna hang in the balance until the appeal result? It's time to seriously focus and knuckle down on 5th anyway.

If City are top 4 and the ban upheld, and let's say Chelsea finished 6th but won the Champions League would 5th still pick up the CL place?

Best off going for 4th though.

I think even if City appeal this ruling and win, the landscape is changed utterly for them.

In future they will have to be cognisant of the rules and abide by them.

No more spending money and paying wages like it was going out of fashion.

Manchester City’s easy ride at the top is over.

I see it the other way round - if city win their appeal, it kills FFP and City with give everyone a massive two fingers, probably spending more and more

It’s already got the VAR asterix against it. People forget now but the games at the beginning of the season when they got the league won and City gave up were an absolute disgrace.

I will never recognise this seasons league winners as true winners, the season has been an utter farce with VAR, rules changing game by game while teams have already been punished by rules they've changed. It's disgraceful and the season should be wrote off.

Surely the fact that City plan to mount a long and arduous appeal means that any punishment will be delayed till the appeal is concluded.

I have no idea of the timescales, but would imagine this will go on longer than this season, ruling out 5 place qualifying this season. Does anyone know?

Yup.

CAS will rule in their favour and FFP will be killed.

Which isn't a bad thing for us like with our mate in the shadows. lol lol

To be fair, any club that gets taken over by a mega-rich owner should be allowed for the first 3 years to spend massive and not fall foul of FFP. After that then they fall in line with everyone else.

Hard to police also.. Mosh buys Everton spends like mad then once the 3 years is up Usmanov buys it from Mosh.. so would we get 6 years of mad spending? On the other hand I agree with you that if someone buys a company they should have the right to spend what they want to make it a success... the FFP rules are baffling.. Liverpool and United are up to their ears in debt yet these rules the way that are set up allow them to spend way more than most clubs.. rules that are OK with debt but not with investment need to be questioned in court I'm rooting for City this time.

It is just taking away teams ability to compete with the established, City ruined it for everyone, the minute FIFA/UEFA said that no more teams can do what PSG and City have done has created an uneven divide now. I'd say it's almost impossible to bridge the gap but somehow Leicester keep proving everyone wrong.

Exactly, and I for one am happy about that. God forbid they have to sell one of their top class players in order to reinvest in the squad, you know, like any normal football club.

They've had it easy for ages, and judging by the reaction of the fans they know it.

Leicester have twice taken advantage of the league being poor, and we'll done to them.. I'm quite jealous that it's them and not us.. that's what having a top striker can do.

NO we hope they do win, their should be no limits to spending as long as the club is not at risk.

Ironically, us, city and Chelsea would be more healthy than Liverpool and Man United.
As mentioned before Utd have a huge commercial revenue that easily services their debt for the foreseeable. The loveable neighbours have a much lower debt burden that they readily meet too whereas Chelsea are still Abramovich's plaything, he still pumps money in to keep them solvent. Their business model now looks to the future thoufh with young talent farmed across Europe. City are totally reliant on their benefactor and this now looks quite dodgy ground. We, well, we need Moshiri to keep dreaming his dream and not think about cutting and running or we're dead instantly. Think before you type.
