Makes for an interesting derby

In fact, Moyes needs to make this our cup final now IMO. European places are gone and Suarez has put them in dissaray.

I want the players to treat this game like an FA cup final, they owe it to the fans for the Wigan debacle.

It's not though.

It's not?

Apart from maybe one or two season servers who had no chance to imprint themselves on the fixture it is. He's certainly Everton's worst manager of the fixture. Proportionally it's a horrendously low return of points.

Walker lost every derby he played, which admittedly was only the one.

Bingham played 6, drew 3 and lost 3. Harvey played 9, won 1, drew 2, lost 6. Both you'd have to say were worst records.

Everton Managers by derby win and lost %

Royle: 5 games, won 20%, lost 0% = +20%
Catterick: 25 games, won 32%, lost 40% = -8%
Lee: 12 games, won 17%, lost 34% = -17%
Kendall: 31 games, won 25%, lost 45% = -20%
Britton: 7 games, won 28%, lost 57% = -29%
Smith: 8 games, won 12.5%, lost 50% = -37.5%
Moyes: 24 games, won 17%, lost 56% = -39%
Bingham: 6 games, won 0%, lost 50% = -50%
Harvey: 9 games, won 11%, lost 67% = -56%
Walker: 1 game, won 0%, lost 100% = -100%

Fair enough to a point. But his record of 4 wins from 24 Derbies places him with the very worst of our managers (who, to be fair to them, had less time in the job to get a grip on the fixture) and shows Moyes up in relation to our truly great managers to be hopeless in winning local supremacy. Look at how long term managers stack up in terms of win rate to Moyes.

he's a complete disaster in comparison.

Managerial Derby Record: 1939-2010
(win percentage in brackets)

Theo Kelly
W3 P11 (27%)

Cliff Britton
W1 P7 (14%)

Harry Catterick
W7 P23 (30%)

Billy Bingham
W0 P7 (0%)

Gordon Lee
W2 P10 (20%)

Howard Kendall I,II, & III
W6 P20 (30%)

Colin Harvey
W1 P7 (14%)

Joe Royle
W2 P5 (100%)

Walter Smith
W1 P7 (14%)

David Moyes
W4 P24 (16%)

I'd rather he play, at least then we'll lose with a world class forward doing the damage as opposed to a deflected Henderson pea-roller.

Yeah I wrote this before this year's goodison derby.

"While we've never dominated the derbies post shankley, Kendall did better in the derbies than Moyes has, Catterick did, Gordon Lee up against arguably the most succesful team england has ever produced did better, even Walter Smith who was an awful manager did a little better.

Moyes isn't meant to be a failure like Bingham or Harvey or Walker. Sure his record in the derby is better than those but he's one of the top ten best paid managers in the world and meant to be one of the best managers in the league.

I expect him to achieve difficult things. Such as beating Liverpool reguarly. "

Stand by that. He's not the worst manager in the derbies we've ever had but he is comfortably the worse manager in the derbies of the managers who haven't been a complete disaster.

Am I right in thinking the last time we won at their ground was September 1999, Kevin Campbell scored the winner, Westerveld, Gerrard and Jeffers sent off?

I never hold out much hope for the derby, they are normally not very nice games to watch and we rarely win

Correct.

I'm not watching it in public this year, having an entire pub draped in blue silenced by three kopites with not even a glimmer of red clothing in sight makes me want to crawl up my own arse and die, can't be going through that again.
