It's strange, it really is. He seemed to look a bit more up for it when he was carrying his foot/toe injury - he was certainly scoring more then, but it could have been a psychological thing, an excuse as much to say that it freed him a bit.

Actually, no.

Torres decline was due to numerous injuries and liverpool destroying him phsycially. Which is why for Spain he was terrible as well after euro 2008.

Like lukaku, torres was groomed to be something he is not. However, unlike lukaku, torres changed his game quite a bit and did a decent job at it.

Perhaps friend, you'd have some idea,
about my cousin who went to Korea,
His name was Rover,
And when he went over,
He was put right in to a tortilla

We played perfectly to his strengths in 2013 when we were getting used to the possession based stuff and needed the outball runner in the channels - and he dominated because of it. But we did not in 2014 when confidence oozed and teams began to fear us and sit back, and his performances suffered.

And is Martinez going to adopt his tactics for him? Maybe... can't see it though. I'd expect Martinez to pressure Lukaku to adapt his game before that happened.

It's still this on toast with Lukaku. I'd really love Martinez to just go "hang on, you know what, we have a £28m slotter available here, perhaps we should play with the aim of getting him running at goal. Maybe that will get us a few wins."

He seems to be trying to develop his all round game, because we can all agree that it definitely needs working on. BUT, at this very moment in time we need to start winning games and his goals can do that, play to his strengths and he will slot. Making him play with his back towards goal will not help us, him running at people and slotting will.
