Louis van Gaal to Everton

How come people rate complete unknowns like Fonseca or Silva yet don’t want a proven winner like LVG. He could be perfect for us. There’d be no downing of tools under him that’s for sure.

I'd rather someone who was able to stick around for some time to be honest. It won't benefit us if we chop and change managers every few years, but that's exactly what van Gaal has done in his managerial career. A couple of years here, a few there. He seems to have difficulty not peeing people off. His Ajax and Barca teams were a joy to behold, but that was nearly 20 years ago now.

It's a no for me.

Blurrrrgh.

That last pint or kebab was defo off.

Wait a second, did someone say LVG?

Blurrrrrrrrrgh.

Yeah, young and exciting manager who can build for years to come, Van Gaal won't be here long and then we'd most likely get another manager in and we're back to square one.

I think the issue is longevity and hunger though mate. As a club it feels like we need a spell of continuity and leadership and would really benefit from having a manager who will be here for 4 or 5 years. I know people say "that doesn't happen anymore" but I look at Spurs and Liverpool who with similar(ish) resources to what we are alleged to have available (i.e. not the most but enough to be competitive) went and got younger coaches and gave them time. It feels a sensible ploy for us and would re-assure a lot of the fanbase and players.

Likewise I think we could benefit from a coach with something to prove. While LVG cv (and Wenger's) is enviable (they have not won significantly more than any Everton Manager) what motivation do they now have? Im not saying I'm against either, both are a big upgrade on Allardyce but they are legitimate questions.

If Wenger came, with Arteta working alongside him that would be ideal for me. If LVG came we'd have the obvious advantage that he gets along well with Brands which is very important. Both are good at developing young players too. Both, despite being deemed as failures over recent years have won trophies.

I think I'd have a similar view to either that I did to Koeman. Very impressive managers but probably not the right type of appointment. We would see though.

What is quite clear, is Moshiri seems to value experience in managers. It could be his first 3 appointments would break our record for oldest ever manager. We also don't know if Fonseca would come. An experienced coach, with high expectations who can see us through for 2-3 years would seem to be a very appealing option to Moshiri.

It's not even just his (lack of) longevity. He seems to rub people up the wrong way, so when he does leave it's not always a better place than when he joined. He's had tremendous success, but I'd argue that many of his clubs have been in a position where success is fairly guaranteed.

That's not to say that Wenger is going to be around for 5+ years either, but I think he could potentially put us back on an even keel again before we get someone that could build a dynasty.

Wenger working alongside Arteta would make most sense. Andy Gray made a great point the other day re Wenger, which is he needs to take more help in his next job. Having a DOF above him sorting out players, and a top young coach below him running much of the day to day stuff, allowing him to maximise his time on game tactics would be a great benefit.

I would prefer Fonseca or Emery to Wenger but have no idea how realistic they are. But Wenger/Arteta with the potential for Arteta to take over from Wenger would be an appealing option for most Everton fans.

The biggest value I think Wenger could bring to the club is he knows how to build a winning culture. I'm not at all convinced that the squad over the last few years have the mental side of the game right at all. The way we've seen such tremendous drop-offs in performance is not right and wouldn't happen if things were spot-on behind the scenes.
