Looking ahead to the summer

If the player is signing from outside the club, sure. But when he's a current player, the idea that he'd even entertain a move is a great way to burn good will.

Everton to Liverpool rumours about decent players border on reassuring, because they're either utter tosh or the player never "got" Everton to begin with.
nah, I imagine all the McCarthy rumours are down to him wanting a better contract (probably on par with Barry), there has to be a credible threat that someone is going to pay him a higher wage and steal him or else there'd be no negotiation.

Not from the player of course, he remains loyal. But it's his Agents job to provide him with options.

The Barkley, Garbutt and mirallas rumours to Liverpool cannot happen for obviosu reasons - strengthen a rivals side, you should never side with the enemy etc etc.... What really winds me up is that they are forever telling us how crap we are yet they 'apparantly' want one or two of our players to try and replace the players they overpaid for, players such as Balotelli, Borini, markovic (he is showing signs of potential).

Either in this window or summer we need a new goalkeeper, a left sided centre back in his mid twenties, a left footed wide player. I would release Distin and Alcaraz and sell Howard. Any other player leaving would need replaced like for like.

Reading on the news that Osman may never play again got me thinking about how big a rebuilding job this summer is going to be. It is likely that the spine of this club which David Moyes relied on, and what we have cheered on for years, is going to be no longer. Taking into account the below list of possible players exiting, is the this the most important summer we have faced as a club in the last decade and will this summer determine if we have any success in the next few years?

Possible players leaving:

Howard- sounds like we are getting a replacement and Tim may go to the MLS;

Distan- likely to retire or be sold;

Coleman- apparently wants to leave if the rumours in the transfer thread are right;

Hibbert- likely to retire;

Pienaar- injury prone of late and may be sold;

Osman- could have played his last game;

Mirallas- likely to be sold if he doesn't sign a contract extension, only 12 months left and wants CL football.

Gibson

Eto'o

Mcaleny

One of Garbutt, Oviedo and Baines (do we need 3 LB's)

How much could we expect for all these?

Not a lot considering how much we need to replace

If all the players we expect to leave go adding 5+ players to a squad/ team is surely going to affect the harmony- Bobby has got a massive job ahead to ensure he brings in the right personalities to not upset the apple cart.

I'd be willing to sell baines and Coleman in the summer. I love both of them but with Bryan and Garbutt needng assurances of playing time and baines age I would be willing to sell. Coleman I would love to keep.. But if we do get a big offer and can somehow get clyne then I would be open to a move. The 35m that we would receive could get us clyne and a center back and goalkeeper. Depending on the ages of those two players , th defence would be sorted for the next 10 years . Along with Barkley, jimmy, mo the centre mid is also sorted for 10 years.... Lukaku again 10 years.... All of a sudden we only need to add 5-6 quality young players over the next couple of years and we would have a serious team on our hands

Baines is better than Oviedo, and much better than Garbutt. We've seen Garbutt play for the first team a handful of times and he's done well, but I haven't seen enough to warrant him being 'the new Baines'.

Coleman wouldn't go for 35m and we would have no chance of signing Clyne, who is currently playing for a club who are more of an attraction than we are at the moment and is probably worth around the same, if not more than Coleman.

Sell Baines and Coleman and much of the identity of our team has gone.

I agree its unlikely we would get 35m for Coleman,but why is it when shaw went for 30m,also Coleman is better that shaw IMO.

Realistically we need to ship out quite a few players as mentioned by others here.

The problem is, the types of teams that sign many players tend to fail in the league. Villa, sunderland, QPR all nearly or did go down on a mass signing spree. Hull signed a few themselves and are struggling. Up top spurs and liverpool did the same and immediatly dropped out of where they were the year before.

We need to be signing a couple players at least now not the summer for them to bed in. If we signed the new distin and new Osman this month then come the summer, the new alcaraz howard, piennar and barry would be more of a boost and the squad would still be a good size to continue with without completly overhauling the playing 11.

Ment sell them both for 35m and baines is the better player yes.... But losing 2 young players on a free is something everton can't afford to do. Especially when both of those players actually look very impressive.. Coleman might be gone anyway if rumours are to be believed and like it or not baines only has a few years left in him... We should be concentrating on getting a young team together that can play together every week with the aim of breaking top 4 in a couple of years time... That is the realistic way for us as we don't have the financial power to try what spurs are doing

if coleman's head has been turned, then sell him tbh. we probably won't be able to get anyone on his level, but sell him for near that £30m mark and replace him and strengthen a couple of other areas vastly. it's the last important position on the pitch and there's quite a few good young right backs coming through like trippier and byram.

at the end of it, coleman would be nowhere without us, one good season and he's had his head turned? if all true i don't want him here tbh, been a bit bad this season anyway, better recently mind.
