Just seeing the footage now.

That’s just people wanting a fight. Nothing to do with inequality.

Idiots.

It’s not in retaliation to anything serious. It’s a riot for riots sake.

Here's the takeaway mate for the majority of people in this country.

"No wonder they're targeted more when you look at this. Can't blame the police."

Whether fairly or not, this will be linked to BLM's actions over the last month. And to be perfectly honest, I think it's fair - I think there's a direct correlation between this and the approval of anarchy. The vandalism of public property has been celebrated - the message was as long as you think you're right, go ahead and commit crimes.

That clearly is going to empower people to follow suit.

cant see how it can be defended and I’m not sure anyone would seek to do so . I didn’t even really know about it until it was referenced here .

That's my point really about Twitter. They've gone silent on it, and the major news outlets are only picking it up now, and in the case of the BBC it's a few paragraphs.

Because it doesn't fit with a set narrative that is ongoing currently.

That's why the social media echo chamber has decided to ignore it instead.

Comes back to my point about socio-economics being much more important as the underlying cause of racism. Everything comes back to it - until the emphasis is on redressing the class imbalance in this country then nothing will really change, but unfortunately that's a lot more nuanced a debate that people are seemingly incapable of participating in, as skin colour alone is more visual and easier to superficially understand.

What this last night was is a result of lower-class largely black kids being empowered by anarchy being tolerated and indeed celebrated in recent weeks, so they feel they can do whatever they want whenever they want now. Which is why pulling down statues and making stupid demands was counter-productive; because they lead to pointless outcomes like this that actively damage the underlying cause.

In the cursory 30 seconds I spent looking at it, there appears to have been a party mentioned, so it's just tits being tits unfortunately. There was another party at the weekend in Vauxhall Park and it was maybe 20 folk just having a nice picnic for someone's 31st birthday. It's probably not fair for either to define a race any more than the prat that hired the banner above the Etihad defines Caucasians.

It was a party that got (seriously) out of hand; the sort of thing that happens down here every summer it gets really hot.

Calling it a riot is a bit of a stretch.

I'm not defining a race though. I'm saying celebrating/tolerating actions will empower others.

For example, when you get Tommy Robinson saying he's going to London to defend statues/have a fight and the police do nothing but say "well, behave yourselves eh when you get here", then hundreds of his fellow knuckledraggers will be empowered to join him.

Same principle. You tolerate (and let's be honest, celebrate/applaud) public property damage because it was in a cause, then there's going to be some black people who think "well, we can do what we want now, let's kick the Police down the road and if they batter us we'll claim police brutality and pull down more statues."

I don't think this is a coincidence.

It’s incredibly frustrating. I’m in two minds about the vandalism thing, particular when it’s there to serve a purpose.

But you are right in that it has spawned this kind of behaviour which isn’t with purpose. It’s just a display of anger for the sake of it.

I get that it’s a display of power from people who have none. But *this* kind of behaviour isn’t raising awareness. It’s not in retaliation of something (other than a party breaking up as far as I can see). It’s just random anger and people are revelling in it. That’s not fighting for a cause. It’s not a means to an end. It’s just chaos. And that’s not going to change anything.

I mean from the scale of the footage I can see it was bigger than a party getting out of hand.

That’s because you have an incorrect definition of what a party is, in this context anyway. By some accounts they had a sound system and a couple of hundred people there.

During the whole Coronavirus pandemic and BLM matter I must admit the media have been alot heavier with their individual agendas.

I dont know if its because you are stuck in more that you are stuck watching more of it but has felt like some mad social engineering program since April.

Add the PL still taking the knee for God knows how many more weeks and seemingly ignoring their previous "no politics" rule seems something very sinister going on at present.

Yikes.

You think promoting social justice and opposing racism is sinister?

That's been my argument all along and why I could see this sort of thing coming a mile off. It's called cause and effect.

Theres nothing wrong with having a party. It's the polices own fault for getting trounced for trying to stop people from having a good time.

I`ll call it as I see it.

Just like football hooligans, some lads just like fighting and aggro, whether they are right wing, left wing, black or white.

All they need is an excuse to kick it off and away they go.

I know what a party is. I’ve held loads similar actually in Brixton nearly 20 years ago. When it was a lot tougher than it was now.

That wasn’t a little scuffle after a big one.
