Current Affairs London Protests

1. People have different places they put their energy into.
2. I don't think anyone who's arguing the statues shouldn't be standing is focusing all their energy on to it.
3. Do you have a list of people who are arsed about the statues but not child labour?
4. Why are you so defensive over that statement?

It's hypocritical to complain about a slave trade but be fine at the same time about child slave labour making the clothes they wear to the protest, or the phone they use to tweet their anger at the slave trade.

You either disagree with it all or you shut the hell up about the one.

Unless .....you know ........people are being selective in what they oppose.

Of course people are selective about what the oppose, the World is a complex and messy place.

Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

I’m not being defensive I’m just responding to you.

I think people have lots of different opinions on lots of different things. People may be hypocrites, they may not be, it doesn’t invalidate the actual point.

It’s the laziest argument to do the ‘but you’re using a phone’ argument.

Kin'el.

Going to rummage through my kitchen cupboards to find something to be offended by.

Times change, and things which seemed run of the mill when I was young, are rightly seen as racist now. Hell, when I was a kid, we sent off for golli**** from Robertsons and had a "Sambo" money box which I now look at and think "what the feck" was that about ?

So we need to look at things now and think about whether or not they're reinforcing racial stereotypes, or whether things like Coco Pops are just using various animals to appeal to children. Kellogg was plainly, in today's terms, extremely racist, but he's been dead for beards so we need to look forward, but we ( well certainly I ) also need to listen what black lads and lasses say about what they find offensive, and act accordingly.

That doesn't mean we have to listen to every nutcase ( black, brown or white ) trying to make a point on twitter, but if there's a consensus in the BAME community which basically says "That makes us uncomfortable" then we all need to listen.

This is the epitome of the right wing div's we've seen over the past week or so. All big hard men until they get sparked out, then want the police to come and help. The lad fronted a guy twice his size and got banged out, now they want the police they spent the weekend attacking to get him. lol

Zero sympathy for anyone who goes up for a fight, gets sparked out, and then cries that they got sparked out

On the video he approaches the massive fella, covering a good 10 yards and putting his hands up to fight.

So I agree it is hard to feel sympathy for him when he gets sparked out.

His head hitting the pavement was quite sickening though, so hopefully he isn't seriously hurt (we would have probably heard if he was).

Pulling down statues because of connotations isn't really like turning a blind eye to child labour who make a lot of our consumerism desires.

I believe it's hypocritical. You want all your things but only have an issue with something from hundreds of years ago. Turning a blind eye to modern slavery but be angry about the past ?

I bet you it does get protested one day , when Facebook tells them to.
