Interesting article here about the experiences of BAME police officers, the racism they experience at work, the racism they see in the policing itself and also how the police find it difficult to recruit and retain BAME staff.

That’s a problematic article for me. There’s a few things in there that are standard police ‘banter’ such as the uniform being wrecked as a new hire, being spoken down to as a low ranked officer that are part and parcel of the job, but framed in this context as a racial attack. Things like the box ticker comments clearly are racist.

I’m sure there are racist elements and attitudes within the police force, there’s no way that the entrenched attitudes exposed in the Lawrence Enquiry can have been completely removed. The problem is these sort of articles which massively generalise and remove context.

You are right that without context the article isn’t that insightful - the police (and any emergency service) is historically a job that loses a lot of people within the first few years, simply because the reality doesn’t match up to what people thought. There are also the people who just can’t do the job, for whatever reason - including

Being treated like just a number is a complaint that rings true, especially as new joiners literally are just a number and seniority is such a big thing (as it is in any organisation where everyone is serving for decades). Probationers are deliberately given the tasks they need to learn to do properly, and often these are the worst jobs, the ones where they get to understand what the organisation has to do.

That said, destroying bits of uniform isn’t and has never been “banter” - it’s clear bullying, and given how extremely cliquey some places can be it’s not surprising it goes on, but it should never be tolerated.

As I said sadly the left media have drip fed BAME people to believe every obstacle they face in life is down to their skin colour therefore a self fulfilling prophecy is formed.

Doesn't get a job promotion - automatic racism

Dont get their 1st choice uni placement- automatic racism

Gets stopped by police - automatic racism

Sadly there are those who continue to drip feed this in order to form further division within society.

Yeah, couldn’t quite think of the word so opted for banter, but very similar to hazing etc which has been all but removed from sports because it is bullying.

Stop and search isn't far off that though, is it?

As for the rest, the only people who think it's like that are people such as yourself.

Not really - someone posted a link to a report in the Guardian where alot more BAME employees claimed they felt discriminated against than white counterparts for not getting a job promotion.

Sol Campbell is a perfect example of everything being about the colour of his skin.

The only people who don't see that are the blinded far left.

But you just generalised again, didn't you. You do that a lot. You moan about sweeping statements by making a sweeping statements.

When you say, far left, how far do you mean? A lot of your sweeping statements seem to against a sect that I don't think you understand.

Do you know many far left people?

Not really. Sol Campbell had a great career, is intelligent, played for England 70 odd times and the best managerial job he could get when starting out was Macclesfield Town.

Lampard had a great career, played 100 times for England, is intelligent and got offered the Derby County job when starting out.

So that automatically proves racism?

Maybe owners dont want to employ a bloke who they know when the day comes when he needs sacking that he'll likely kick up a fuss in the media calling them racist for sacking him and "not giving him a fair crack of the whip".

Sol Campbell and John Barnes are not really the best people to speak up for more opportunities for BAME to manage clubs.
Campbell was the fella when interviewed after a game as manager of Southend started talking about Southampton , he forgot who he was managing.
It's not always about the colour of your skin sometimes it is because you are crap at the job.

Spot on mate but sadly we'll never achieve an equal/happy society because no matter what they'll always be those who feel every hurdle they face is down to their skin colour which isn't always the case.

Im not saying racism doesn't go on or that some BAME have been discriminated against when applying for jobs/promotions etc on that ground but its imo unhealthy to have the default reason in their mind being down to their skin colour and its something that is recklessly reinforced in the media.

It's such a tricky subject mate you are scared of saying the wrong thing .
I once needed to speak to HR people for advice on getting rid of someone who was not pulling their weight.
The first question I was asked,
" Was the fella BAME , Gay or disabled " as it turned out he was white but I shocked by the question surely that was irrelevant.
