Tough to tell really. I don't think its as blatant as it used to be but I also find that there is a bit more hatred in the people who are that way inclined.

I think a lot of racism these days is far more veiled because other people will pull people up on using what I would call route one racism.

Sadly I just think some people will always be that way inclined. Doesn't mean people should stop trying to fix it of course.
Well if you're judging our battle against racism on the number of racists in the country then I can understand why you have that view. And I agree that there is a level of hate around in this country generally, not just in relation to racism.

But I also think it's a shame that you are using those metrics because by doing so you are disregarding a lot of good that is happening too.

I don't know what is the answer to these extremists. They aren't just going to go away in the short term but we can't give up trying as you say.

I said in a post a few days ago that the youth of today are much more on board with these things, and that these kids will comprise tomorrows society and decision makers. Hopefully there will be a lot less of these racists around by then.

I see blokes taking a slash* in the street pre and post match most games, should they all be locked up for a fortnight ?

I think it's fair to say that this bloke is a knobhead, and has probably got away with doing worse in the past, but, if he didn't actually know about the monument, and was, in his own head, just taking a piss by a pillar, this does smack of populism. If he was deliberately pissing there because of the memorial then he deserves his sentence, but there'll be plenty of posters on here who've urinated in public places before now, and plenty more will go on to do it in the future.

*to be fair, I do make a habit of looking for them

He was literally charged with out raging public decency, so yes it is populist.

This bloke had gotten purposefully absolutely smashed, outside Parliament with no toilets available, whilst participating in a violent, far right protest (attack on police), and pissing on a memorial.

Lads taking a piss pre and post match aren't likely to find themselves outraging public decency in the same way.

Good to see there are some fascist defenders in here.

Fine him then, no real problem with that, but if we bang up everyone who's had a piss in public then we're going to need a fair few more cells.
Playing the devils advocate here, but he pleaded guilty to the charge, which is a serious indictable offence under common law. It wasn't the pissing...

...it was where and the impact it had on the public. That's why he's been given a custodial and not fined/summonsed for a public order offence.

I suspected a hefty fine and community work to be fair, but I doubt he'll be grumbling too much because it could have been a heavier sentence.

Catfish isn't defending fascism mate. He's defending a guy pissing in public

Plus the shame, as he’s been named and shamed all over the National news today.

If he’s in employment, I can’t see his employer being too happy either.

This will follow him around for a long time.

That initial outcry by the press and on social media would have been the nail in his proverbial coffin because it pretty much proved the prosecution's case for them.

He'll need to keep his head down a while because it'll stick with him. Like I said earlier, I really doubt he knew it was even there, but that's the risk he took.
