what? that centre left party who won 3 elections on the bounce and the only Labour leader to win one in 50 years...

yeah... they deffo lost the working class lol

Or that Blair won by bringing in the middle classes. The traditional Labour heartlands weren't going anywhere so stayed voting for Labour in 1997 but began to tail off from then. The loss of union power, and allowing immigration and benefits to become central issues in late 20th Century politics through to now laid the groundwork for the right to gain traction. The party that lost that election under Brown was one that Blair had helped create.

TBF it was probably the centre-left that lost the working class. What you would call "far left" (Corbyn) tried to get them back but failed.

So all those Labour seats in North Wales & northern England went from Labour to the Tories last year because of the centre left, as represented by Corbyn? That wouldn't be my reading of the political situation, but hey-ho, everyone has the right to an opinion.

I also think you are right with the Churchill statue. There's a small section of idiots (who mainly label themselves antifa) who can't really move beyond wanting a punch up, so will look to do things to enable this. I mean whatever you think about Churchill he was never a fascist. He held some racist views, but also played a remarkable role in helping the country defeat Hitler.
If any of the Churchill haters have some £5 notes that they can't bear to look at anymore as his portrait is on the back, I will gladly take them off your hands.

Well worth a watch.

The Chief Constable (or Deputy) got an absolute malleting on the local TV news last night down here. And still defended them to the hilt despite having watched this vid, and the bodycam vids from the two officers.
I worked for years in a youth centre with black youths and they had this all day every single day. Some were regularly stopped 4/5 times a day to engage in these pointless demeaning conversations These police are ignorant and stupid. They can't even communicate properly. That's what happens when you pay minimum wage. It's embarrassing and indeed racist.

I agree that anybody who condones violence and vandalism done in their name is equally as bad as the perpetrators. That applies across the board irrespective of your political stance
What do you do when peaceful protest doesn't work? I'm not condoning it, just asking the question.

In my opinion we live in a democratic and free society. There are not many places in the world where you have the freedom to do and say as much as you do here in the UK.

Having said that it is far from perfect. There is inequality as regards wealth distribution and there are also prejudices against minorities of all types. But we also have a social welfare system and national heath service that is far better than most countries around the world. You wouldn't think so the way some people on here behave, but people from other countries actually want to come and live here.

The level of prejudice and discrimination in this country is definitely changing for the better in my opinion and I have no doubt that will continue. It is definitely a generational thing. In very simplified terms, the older generation didn't see anything wrong with it. My generation understand that discrimination is wrong but sometimes struggle to see the big picture and look at it from the other perspective. The next generation, dare I use the term millenials without getting hit by abuse, are a lot more on board and we've seen great strides over recent years with changes to the laws and many large organisations now being equal opportunity employers. Today's young generation get it, as we can see from the solidarity being shown in many of the demonstrations and marches. This generations will comprise tomorrows society and in 15/20 years time will be the decision makers running this country. Obviously the above is a massive generalisation and there will be plenty of examples of exceptions to the rule.

This countries laws are fair. If anybody has a grievance they have the freedom to speak out against it, to demonstrate, to seek resolution through political means or to seek resolution through legal means. If all that fails, then you have to go back to political means to change society enough to accept that you have a genuine grievance.

Breaking the law to resolve the grievance will only, in my opinion, make it harder in the short term to achieve your goal because you turn parts of the community against you.
