I think you're right mate. I didn't go to any protests. The thing is though, the horse has bolted long before these protests, the conga lines for VE day, the Cummings affair, the punch ups on beaches, now a group of (it should be said) mainly white idiots going statue hunting. I know I have a laugh and joke about such things, but I do think as a white person (which I am) it would be very odd to be pushing oneself to the front of the cue to go pulling down statues. If black people want them to come down, thats fair enough but I do think it's a bit unhelpful.
I also think you are right with the Churchill statue. There's a small section of idiots (who mainly label themselves antifa) who can't really move beyond wanting a punch up, so will look to do things to enable this. I mean whatever you think about Churchill he was never a fascist. He held some racist views, but also played a remarkable role in helping the country defeat Hitler. Again it's not my place to say one negates the other but I don't think graffiting statues is a sensible use of time. He is seen favourably by lots of people and you just push those people towards Tommy Robinson when you do that.
I think thats the issue though, that they want Tommy and his ilk there. Whereas to me anyway, that is the last thing thats needed.
The sad part in this, is like I said the other day Black Lives Matter have actually opposed these protests, never mind the graffiti. They are a peaceful organisation who want to help in their communities. Yes their main objective is to help Black people but also they want to try and support poor white people. I don't agree with everything they say, but I do think that on the whole they do a lot of good. Unfortuately, the idiots who behaved badly, ignored their messages and ambition get a bit of a free pass, as BLM have to take the flak for their decisions.
The whole thing has been handled awfully. I hope we can get some protection of key War memorials without needing Tommy and his ilk there, as it will just spiral.
