Current Affairs Liz Truss

Garry Trudeau (Doonesbury) loves to turn American politicians into easily-drawn icons. George H.W. Bush was a disembodied voice, Bill Clinton was a waffle dripping butter, and Newt Gingrich was a bomb with a lit fuse (which then exploded when he lost the speakership).

I think a magic 8-ball would be perfect for Truss. About as much reason and constancy.
2 in 2 minutes... gove will sort ya

She has totally ruined what was in itself almost a myth that the Tories are the party of fiscal responsibility. It was the one trump card they could play despite the years of devastation caused by pandering to the UKIP side of the party. Luckily for them Brexit was so popular they could get away with the self harm, but the continuous bad decision making since is just laying waste to any credibility. They need to be put down and quick before they tank it completely.

She really is the worst.
Starmer is dismantling her. Setting the trap which she fell into. No reduction in public spending.
That is one hell of a claim, wonder if she has told no 11.
When the money people are saying we have to find £60b of cuts a year, she has just made a really bold claim that she is not going to reduce spending. She better hope we see a massive increase in income then.

Since the GFC, more or less the whole world had been on a spending spree. When your currency is in the toilet you don't try to prop it up by taking on the hedge fund's shorting it in a 'throw good money after bad slugfest'...labour tried this in the late 70s - and failed.

You bite the bullet...go cap in hand to the IMF if you have to... but you also make some gestures of fiscal prudence.

Seen it all before - Crisis? What crisis?

Unfunded tax cuts is not such a gesture...just sayin like.

With inflation being what it is you don't actually need to reduce absolute levels to impose quite significant cuts in real spending power.

She literally says / does whatever she thinks is the mood being cartied on the prevailing wind.

But in an utterly unsophisticated way. It's one thing blagging the ghouls that make up the party membership, but quite another to go ahead without recalibration. Now there's a backlash, she reacts. And I daresay will do something rash / impractical.
