Absolutely defies belief that we would have been better off had they left energy prices going up to try and naturally curb inflation due to lack of money, least you have the option of putting a few jumpers on or heating the house for half an hour etc. instead of force interests rates so high and so fast that people don't have a house at all to worry about heating. I feel so angry for the people whose deals are ending. This is maths 101 to incrementally adjust the rates so people can gradually get used to them instead of within a 3 month period they go from 1 point something to 5/6%.
