Current Affairs Liz Truss

There are very few decent MP’s unfortunately. I mean seriously, just look at the Labour leadership and tell me how many of them could run a business or even a whelk stall, but we expect them to have the competence to run a country. The quality of our politicians is the worst it’s ever been……
And we will never have good people running the country while people cling to the long disproven myth that things such as healthcare, justice, policing, welfare and infrastructure are things to be approached with a hard nosed business mind.

At the moment, no. No national legal requirement for solar panels, solar-charged batteries, rainwater harvesting or grey water recycling. And absolutely no sensible reason why they aren't all mandatory on new build houses and flats.

The current requirements are in areas such as insulation - all well and good, but this causes excessive electricity use in the summer with thousands of people running fans and portable aircon units for three months solid.

EDIT: off-topic. Truss is a moron, and I say that as a Tory voter.
Awwww Pete's got a friend!

It would have been an open goal for Labour at the next election. Having said that, it didn't matter who got the job, the tories are due a spell in the wilderness and I think Truss will deliver it.
About the only thing she'll actually deliver, other than misery, incompetence, and venality.

I keep seeing people mention insulation being a problem in summer months as it keeps heat in but surely insulation is just a barrier to heat transfer - it also keeps cold in. If you open your windows to let cool air in at night and then close them in the morning, then the cool air should be kept inside by the insulation. Even if a/c is needed to cool down the air, having insulation should mean that the air stays cooler longer - so less a/c needed just like less heating is required in the winter if you have good insulation.
That's all accurate. But it relies on the air cooling significantly at night time, and for a significant portion of the night.

It's still 19c outside where I am right now - I just went out with the dog in a t-shirt and shorts at 8:30pm, in the dark. We haven't had a duvet on the bed since May. The heating hasn't gone on at night since April.

EDIT: apologies mods, off-topic again!

@scratchnsurf we need a different thread if we're going to continue this discussion!
