…so the new PMs husband is from Allerton, get everywhere those scousers.
If you think of a spectrum, you've got civil servants, who are nearly always experts in their field at one end. At the other end, you've got us, who are nearly always clueless. Because politicians have to appeal to the clueless for votes, they're nearly always more towards us than they are the experts. It's primarily the civil servants that actually run things. Politicians are there to provide a degree of accountability and to bluster. I mean it's noticeable that for all of Patel's utter ghoulishness, practically none of the crackpot ideas she presents have actually happened, due in large part to them being wholly unworkable. There have been three chancellors under Johnson's disastrous premiership, and yet the treasury hasn't changed tack a great deal in that time.
My mother in Ireland took in some Ukranian refugees. I went home to help them get set up. I noticed that they were quick to correct people when they used the Russian pronunciation of Kyiv. Seems like a basic thing she or her aides should have gotten right.Just watched the clip. The best part of this is the awkward pause where the otherwise mindlessly-clapping Communist-Party-of-whatever-such-state-you-care-to-name has a very uncomfortable pause before realizing that this awkward phrasing is in fact meant to be an applause line. Then they look around all on edge waiting for someone else to be an opinion leader before joining in.
Says it all, really.

Going green is a very expensive business. Also, this net zero and no new petrol/diesel cars sounds lovely, but will make no difference to the planet as China and the rest of the world churn out the crap. But it will bankrupt the UK…
